Property needs updating, and entertainment during the day

Everything was absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay!!!

Service at hotel was not great .Also booked through Expedia and it did not include airport transportation . Other other websites had it included and we did not notice . Ended up spending more than 100$ on it.

Staff members were very friendly and polite

Somehow, having booked with Expedia, we became targeted for Pallidium timeshare sales. I had read how incredibly helpful the Expedia staff were and misunderstood this to be an attempt to provide elevated service. A lot of promises were made and not delivered. The general disrepair of the facility (outlets not working, A/C that wouldn’t cool, long waits for room housekeeping) required many requests that often went unanswered. If you want to eat at the nice restaurants GET RESERVATIONS right away. And you DO want to eat at those because the buffet had a lot of unrecognizable food served at concerning temperatures. The pool area was beautiful and the service was always very good but getting a chair there became an event based on first come-first serve and I didn’t want to get up early just to get a pool chair. Island beach, amazing weather, helpful staff (waiting on you etc) made it a vacation I needed. In its day I think this resort was probably quite nice. Now I would advise people to stay in the “newer” areas to sleep and come to the Bavaro section for recreation and nightlife. Don’t even waste a minute looking at the casino.

I always hate reading these reviews before I go because I always think people are so petty with their complaints, but some of these are spot on. I’ve been to DR 3 times and this is my least favorite resort. When people say it’s old, it definitely is and the rooms show that, but nothing drastic. We had a toilet leaking everywhere and told the housekeepers who did nothing, but when I went to the front desk they had someone there within 10 minutes. The housekeepers come more frequently than most of the complaints and they do a good job. My biggest complaint is the reservation system for dinners is a nightmare. They want you to download the app which is fine, but if you have more than one room in your party you can’t use the app. So then you have to go to guest services and wait for at least an hour to get to someone who can help you with what you need. And my other complaint would be that we felt like we had to tip, literally everyone. Money talks and the only way we got good service was tipping. I don’t mind tipping at all, but we kind of felt like we were expected to every time we got a drink or went to the buffet or did anything. Also, this place is pretty big and it’s a lot of walking. They advertise a shuttle but you could wait 20-30 mins for that and it’s quicker to just walk. I really wouldn’t say it was horrible but I probably wouldn’t go there again.

Absolutely loved the property. It was relaxing peaceful and full of exciting things around the corner.

This property is in need of updating. We also had problems getting dinner reservations in the evenings.
