Basic:
Pro's: Great hotel - nice friendly staff, nice food (my partner is gluten-free and they made her her own meals!), not too far from the beach, most of the entertainment was good.
Con's: The spa is absolutely terrible. It should be condemned, not advertised on the main page. And, you have to pay for it!
There was a lingering smell of sewerage on the road near the beach.
There isn't much to do in the area, including the hotel - especially if it's bad weather.
Summary:
Go here for the hotel and beach, if that's all you want. No complaints there - apart from the weird bathroom/bedroom partition.
Friendly staff, clean and comfy environment, good food, and a nice pool.
Either ditch the 'spa' advertising or get it refurbished - immediately! This feels like a total scam!
Complimentary dressing gowns would have made things better in the cooler evenings whilst sitting on the balcony.
In depth:
We chose this hotel specifically because it has a 'top spa'. We wanted a holiday where we could relax, and something inside if it rained.
We wanted to get a taxi from the air port to the hotel. TUI failed to mention about cheaper pre-booked taxis (25% cheaper!), or a chance to book a hire car from the hotel at about £200 for the week...
Anyway, we got the hotel about 23:30. They asked for a 'being in Spain tax', which we had to pay then (thanks again, TUI).
The hotel staff gave us some food and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were nice and tidy. They felt clean.
One thing to add, the bathroom has a translucent partition, which is next to the bed. You basically watch your partner use the toilet, even more so when the light is on in the middle of the night - whoever designed that needs their head examined.
The balcony had a nice view of the sea - beach only about 10 min away.
The room was quiet, no real noise from the neighbours.
Nice beaches, worth a walk. The castle is worth viewing... but that's about it in the local vicinity. Even the local tourist information said that the place doesn't have anything interesting.
Now, the real issue - the spa. Something to do on the rainy day we predicted. On the internet - a 1 hour Swedish massage was €65, on their internet from the TV €80, and from the spa place €99. The massage was lacklustre.
After the massage, the spa. The changing room had the vibe of a place that needed a revamp. Even some of the bulbs in the showers didn't work.
Walking to the spa, which wasn't quite clear on directions, led to this total disaster of an environment - cordoned off area with ripped up seats, cracked tiles, missing tiles (even in the hot tub), green mould, black mould, greasy tide marks on the pool edges, a shower that has tepid to scalding hot water in the blink of an eye, blown windows which you can see through, dirt piled up on the outside of windows, rot, decay, filth, steam rooms that were barely warm and stank of bad dampness (concerns of Cholera or Legionella). I came out of there feeling like I needed another shower, but back in my hotel room!! The only person I would invite to the spa would be the health inspector.
With nothing else to do on the rainy days - the pool table is even outside, we were left feeling a bit bored of the area. The TV didn't have satellite to watch. We used our Netflix in the end.
Most of the entertainment was good. One jazz band was boring, the Beatles were too loud and barely played the Beatles, the illusionist rubbing razor blades on his tongue and eating them in front of kids was not a good idea, ABBA night was watchable, the lady giving a few good oldies was the best was a watch, with the crown going to the guys who can actually entertain.
Other than that, the place doesn't really have much to offer.
Finally, we could have also saved money on the taxi home by prebooking - the hotel said order on the day - we could have saved €25 - great end to the holiday.
