Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa

The rooms are very comfortable and location is excellent walking distance to the city centre. The club lounge serves canapés (very good) and cocktails (average) in a lovely setting.

I would rate the staff at the front office average. We arrived at 12.30pm (check in time 2.00pm) and while room was not ready which is understandable, we only got our room at 2.45pm. Not acceptable.

This is the first time I’ve ever given a property 10 out of 10. The old world charm with modern conveniences of the property were outstanding. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was first class - down to the heated tiles. The staff were exemplary. They always greeted me with a smile and called me by name. The restaurant food was delicious. To sum up the property, to me, it was pure lux.

I couldn’t fault it.

We recently stayed at Sofitel Queenstown as a walk-in booking. The lady at reception was friendly and helpful, although she did accidentally quote us a lower price after getting the number of nights we wanted to stay incorrect. Despite this, check-in was still pleasant overall. I had previously stayed at this hotel about a year ago and enjoyed it so much that I recommended it to the rest of my family for this trip. One of the highlights of the hotel is definitely the day spa. It truly feels like a hidden oasis and deserves to be advertised much more. The ladies working there are absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, are the hotel’s biggest asset. Their professionalism and service were exceptional.

Unfortunately, there were also some disappointing aspects during this stay. The breakfast buffet had a lack of variety and options compared to what you would expect from a Sofitel property. The breakfast staff also appeared far more interested in socialising amongst themselves than attending to guests. I also overheard one staff member referring to guests as “little kids” because of the way they ate and left crumbs on the floor, which was quite unprofessional and uncomfortable to hear. The biggest disappointment, and ultimately the reason I would not return, was the condition of the beds. I have stayed in many Accor properties over the years and have never slept in a bed as uncomfortable and worn out as the ones at this hotel. They urgently need replacing. Sadly, it feels as though the standards at this property are beginning to slip.

The location is unbeatable.
