DoubleTree by Hilton Galveston Beach

Hotel is small, modest and outdated but clean enough. Narrow hallways with worn carpeting, only one main small elevator (shared between guests and housekeeping staff) for 5 floors. Seems to cater to cruise crowd as well as normal tourists. Not recommended for family with small kids (not enough to do and pool area is small). Hotel is located across the street from the beach. Free onsite parking was much appreciated (in a paid-parking city like Galveston). They serve drinks and food in the small pool area, which we did not use. They offer breakfast but we ate elsewhere. Good snack variety in the food nook, if you have the munchies. Did not readily see any ADA accommodations (ramps, etc.) for seniors. The smallish double queen bedroom was pretty decent and looked updated, except for some very old stained carpeting. We were not about to go barefoot in that room! Bathroom is adequate, modern and looked updated. It had Crabtree & Evelyn products, which was nice. Clean towels and beddings. The beds were plush and comfortable. Our room 207 supposedly had a balcony seaside view but it was largely blocked by a utility building. The small room safe was broken as was the ironing board, but we didn’t rely on those. Small modern fridge looked new. Good TV channel selection. Overall, a basic two-bed room and no frills. We weren’t there for the beach, plus it was full of seaweed anyway. Not the place to run to with a beach blanket and umbrella in late April. There is a nice seating area on the front lawn with an evening fire pit facing the water but it was windy and cool both nights, so no one was out there. We drove around for our meals and groceries. Galveston is very drivable and none of the sights and activities are far away. Watch out for one-way side streets! Nicer hotels are further down the road towards the pier. The best part was the super friendly staff (Hope checked us in and the front desk was always very helpful). We were fortunate to get early 2pm check-in on a weekday. We got a daily text asking how our experience was. Though far from a luxury hotel, this property had some hallmarks of a quality Doubletree brand. We certainly felt welcomed.

I asked for early access to my room when I booked it, they never replied and did not grant it. The room needed some repairs.
