A very good value hotel in a picturesque setting. Clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

This hotel literally the worst I have ever stayed in during all 60 years of travelling including hostels in countries with more lax health and safety!! First room stained carpet and broken mirror; second room cracked basin and worst of all door that did not close (!) third room wires instead of plug on kettle, shabby and view of tipped rubbish!!! I usually try and err on the positive side because hospitality is hard. However this was an unmitigated disaster and would have been robbery at half the price. Any good points? Breakfast ( if you discount tinned rather than fresh fruit) was freshly cooked ; the mill with stream is pretty and the pub opposite absolutely delightful. The staff , though I suspect care worn dealing with so many issues, did their best and were polite. The whole hotel needs a revamp and I really struggle to believe the positive reviews unless there were some secretly newly decorated rooms and/ or visitors accompanied by a guide dog.

It was ok, check-in was easy. Location is lovely, nice bar, room big and spacious. A bit dated, A bit noisy due to the road.. overall it was good... easy to get around abd a bice pub on the otherside of the road.

Shawn in reception welcomed us with a huge smile and up graded us to the best room they have with air conditioning a beautiful view and the biggest most comfortable bed I’ve slept in. He gave us tips on where to visit and a discount card of 10% if we wanted to visit a lovely pub across the road called The Whitehorse….well worth a visit as the food and staff there were friendly and welcoming. The were plenty of parking spaces and east access to our room. Will definitely visit again. Thanks Shawn for making it a great stay.

Do not stay at this hotel. If you read further down (same experience) the hotel does not account themselves responsible for any faults in the room. My shower was broken (6am I noticed it), water pressure so low I could not finish my shower, yet they have blamed me for not noticing at check in. I tried to inform them in the morning but the reception was closed. Best Western are saying its not one of their properties (yet their name is against it). So I have now written to the CEO!

A lovely welcome and staff helped with my bag to my room. The bed was so uncomfortable and so soft. Then the shower head had broken so I had to hold the shower head...then....water pressure was so low and then hardly any water! Not great at 6.15am and a day before work. Waiting to hear from the hotel

Stayed here 1 night and chose due to location and price. Room spacious and clean, bed comfortable. Was able to open windows to allow cool breeze in

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights using a gift voucher, and also to meet up with friends in the area. On the plus side, Aleysha, who manned Reception/Bar and everything else was excellent at her job(s) and was most welcoming, as was Shawn who appeared to be in overall charge. Breakfast was very good having a choice of full English and Continental. The restaurant was closed due to refurb, but the bar was open. Food can be had from the 2 pubs opposite and a 10% discount can be had from one of them. Downside : the whole building looks very tired, carpets in the breakfast room could do with cleaning. The exterior would also benefit from a complete refurbishment, which i understand is the intention of the owners. Looking at photos of the Hotel in its heyday, it looked great having being built around the old water mill in a lovely position just outside Hemel Hempstead with canal walks close by. We stayed in a standard double room which was fine, backing onto the river Ample parking. Hopefully it won't be too long before the necessary work is started.
