"Top notch resort with top notch staff!"

10.0

I can't say enough good things about Basin Harbor and the staff. They are incredible. The facilities are great, the activities around the resort are numerous and the food is outstanding. We have held our company golf tournament here for the past 2 years (inaugural event in 2024) and they exceeded our expectations. Will has been exceptional with lodging and Jason at the clubhouse/pro shop is outstanding and will keep us coming back every year.

The golf course left a lot to be desired. It was not well maintained and not a very hospitable staff. We were very disappointed.

"Very family friendly resort on lovely Lake Champlain"

10.0

We stayed in the Crestmont cottage and really loved it! Spacious bathroom, 1 big bedroom with 2 double beds, and a living room with a fireplace and wet bar. We didn't use the fireplace because it was summer, and I'm not sure what the policy is on using it, but the window air conditioners worked just fine for August. The resort grounds were lovely and natural but not excessively landscaped - more like a well kept country resort. Actually, there was a set of flower beds near the Ardelia's restaurant on the property that were really colorful and vibrant, and we passed it each when walking to the waterfront. At the waterfall, it was fun to grab the first come, first serve non-motorized craft such as SUPs, kayaks, and pedal boats. We also chose to hire one of their MasterCraft ski boats with a captain a couple times. Both young men were very pleasant and patient, especially when we tried water skiing and tubing. If you want to drive a boat yourself, without a captain, you can rent one of the Key West bow riders they have with a 150 outboard, and I think they have a few pontoon boats for rent as well. The over the top dinner experience not to be missed is the waterfront lobster boil with a delicious buffet of summer salads, crab/seafood cakes, chowder, and dessert. This was all set up on a landing angled towards the sunset over the Adirondacks - absolutely gorgeous! We hope to return next summer!

"Great activities but overcharged meal plan"

4.0

The overall trip was great in terms of activities but the problem was with the meal plan as part of our party had a meal plan and others did not. Upon check out the hotel refused to apply the meal plan for multiple meals thereby overcharging us (eg charging us both for the meal plan and for the dinners).

"Unkind and unhelpful staff"

2.0

Extremely rude and unhelpful staff. Everything is dated and unclean. Would not recommend - there are so many beautiful places around with fabulous people working there, this is not one of them!

"Three bedroom cottage"

8.0

It was great because we got a golf cart to use for our stay capped at 8mph and our son got a bike that he preferred to use so we followed behind him. He got so much exercise and was thrilled. Tons of kids even if you don’t do kid camp. Around every cottage is something. - Tennis, shuffle board, large chess pieces, something for kids. You must make reservations or you cannot eat. We had a few hiccups but each time the staff really bent over backwards to try and fix so we were really pleased. I will say, we went when it was quiet. I do not know if we would have enjoyed the place if it was a busier time. The beach is small with only so many seats. The bars are very small. So if we went say on a busy July week I do not know if we would have been so happy. But our waiter said we came on the decline so it was perfect. No waiting for food reservations, pool just full enough, enough seats at the beach. I do wish they offered more activities but all in all we will be back.

My husband and I stayed at this property because we are driving from the New England coast to upstate New York and wanted a halfway place in the extreme heat. I had remembered this place finally from a couple visits when I was a little girl and had always wanted to go back. We had a lovely room and one of the cottages we had great meals at the main restaurant and the Red Mill. We loved swimming in the lake at the resort and at Button Bay Park. My husband visited the nearby Marine museum, and I had a wonderful visit at the Shelburne Museum. The staff were professional and extra courteous! Only two things that I would change: The breakfast options were extremely limited. Large Buffet in main dining room, or coffee and small choice of pastries at the main lodge store. Sub par coffee machines in the room. I recommend adding a place to get good coffee and a small continental breakfast on site. The other issue that we had is the trail to Button Bay park was not well marked, the signage needs to be enhanced. We got slightly lost, but met a couple the next day who got really lost for the same reason. I went to Vergennes, 15 minutes away to find good coffee and there are some nice small shops there.
