"Third Time Stay"

8.0

This was my third stay at this establishment. After we booked, I saw some of the reviews on here which worried me - but I didn’t need to be. They called before we arrived to tell us that the restaurant was closed and no hot breakfast- I already knew that but it was nice of them to tell us. They contacted us via text to tell us that our room was ready. It is a historic place but is still very nice. We stayed in the rose room which is a king suite with fridge and coffee maker. They also provided complimentary sodas and water. Everyone working there is extremely nice, friendly and helpful. They gave us sheets of the restaurants in the area and made suggestions which were spot on. We did miss the restaurant but do understand that COVID has changed things here - hopefully next time it will be open again as we have enjoyed the dinners and breakfasts in the past.

This property is a gem for those that want a vintage resort experience. It has history, charm and very helpful staff. Our room had an old hunt club feeling nice bedding, coffee/tea maker. Due to Covid, staffing limited- so not able to provide breakfast or restaurant. Please patronize this place with realistic expectations so it can stay viable and we can enjoy the historic setting for a long time. Also great small town and restaurants nearby.

"Bait and switch"

Hard Fail. Maybe historic, but definitely dilapidated. Anniversary getaway, looked for something a little more romantic than a Holiday Inn… pictures on the 1906 Pine Crest Inn website looked right for a couple nights. Trip Advisor billed it as Fitzgerald and Hemingway stayed here… if they were still alive, they’d be issuing a cease and desist. Definitely not worth $215/night. We checked out early after one night. “White Oak” room in “Oak Cottage” looks like the walls were re-paneled in 1960, and the furniture was bought at a thrift store in the late 1990’s. Crappy Celotex ceiling tiles, rickety bed, worn out mattress, lava lamp-esque effect from the spider web in the lampshade, chest of drawers missing huge knob, wobbly toilet seat, crappy shower head, furniture looks like it was purchased at a garage sale, entryway to cottage reeked of mothballs, no GFI outlet in bathroom and an electric heater right beside the sink… and breakfast is basically a supermarket granola bar in a box. Basically, the room looks like it should be rented by the hour rather than the night. Should have sprung for the $359/night at the Grove Park Inn, or $368 at the Village Hotel at the Biltmore Estate. 364 days to get it right next time…

"Pine Crest"

6.0

This is an adorable place to stay but the bed was not comfortable for me and the curtains are old with old blinds so there is a light outside of the facility that would shine into my bedroom even though I tried to close everything tight. It’s very close to Tryon which is a darling town. Not sure I’d stay there again but the grounds and the buildings are really cute.

"Not your father's inn"

4.0

While this place is quiet, perhaps because very few other people were there, and relaxing, it looks shabby. There is a lot of deferred maintenance. The room was nice, but it was also home to some termites. Breakfast is essentially non-existant since the restaurant has closed. What was provided was a box containing an apple, yogurt, a Nature's Valley bar, a tiny roll, and 10-15 grapes. It was pathetic. Very little imagination or effort could have improved the "breakfast, " such as it was. What bnb stands for at this place is bed and bill. It is very overpriced.

My husband and I rented a small 200 year old cabin. Plenty of privacy and very quite. Updated with AC, minifridge, and small Keurig coffee maker without interfiering with the cabins history. Of note shower is functional, not luxurious. You would not be comforitable in this cabin if you are over 6"2'. Front desk staff was amazing. She showed us to our cabin and put together boxed breakfast meals for us when she learned we would have to leave out early for an event, before breakfast was being offered.

This property is charming. The staff is welcoming and very accommodating. It may not have the most up-to-date amenities, but I’ll trade that for the large, quaint rooms and a blissful step back in time. Pull up a rocking chair on the porch or admire the Victorian lobby and if you’re lucky, listen to someone tickle the keys on the grand piano.

"Great historic Inn "

Great older historic Inn. Our room was cozy with a mix of antique and modern furniture. Gas fireplace, coffee station, refrigerator, comfy king bed. Hostess was friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar are still closed. Boxed breakfast was nice.

The Pine Crest Inn was very charming. Beautiful grounds and lobby. Quaint Victorian-style spacious rooms. I actually changed my reservation to be able to stay here again on the second half of my trip.
