Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, Muscat

We had a wonderful stay at the Shangri-La. The hotel is spacious, the rooms are comfortable, the food is excellent, and the pools—especially the lazy river—are outstanding. It was lovely being able to move freely between the two hotels, Al Bandar and Al Waha. Every member of staff we met was exceptional. A special thank you to Islam, who took meticulous care of our rooms. We often saw him working alone, yet he never compromised on attention to detail and still found time to surprise the children with creative towel animals—an incredible effort that truly deserves recognition. Thanks also to Anton, Zain, Cheryl, Hisham, and concierge Jay for their kindness and professionalism. At Al Bandar, Sameer went above and beyond to ensure every need was met—he is a real credit to the group. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable.

A really wonderful trip with my family. Breakfast buffet was great, lots of choice. We stayed for dinner out of convenience - the dinner buffet is really good but on the expensive side (roughly £55 per person). The pool facilities were good and lazy river was fun. I’d come again because my son loved it and it felt like an easy, comfortable trip. All the staff were great and accommodating. Atefeh was lovely and kept checking in on us to make sure our stay was good. Thank you to ALL the staff, very friendly and great with kids.

Exceptional service at piano lounge for years I have hated this venue until Caroline changed my mind I’ll be back to it time and time again

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 6 year old. We all loved the lazy river and the pools in Al Waha, and the beach/promenade area between the hotels was beautiful. It was disappointing that there were a lot of children (and some adults) behaving in a dangerous manner in the lazy river (climbing across the centre, swimming under other [unknown] individuals to try to tip them off, diving off the sides etc) but without clear lifeguard supervision it is inevitable. The lifeguard was excellent at the slides, however. Unfortunately, this is where the positives end and the overall experience was average. We stayed at a number of hotels in Oman across our visit, and the Shangri La definitely had the least functional family room (eg: no power sockets next to the bed, limited storage, small bathroom, difficult to reach the balcony due to the fold out bed) but had the highest price tag. The chairs on the balcony were not at all comfortable to sit on but served a purpose to dry swimwear. The staff members on an individual level were all very pleasant, but inconsistent messages relating to opening hours, the happy hours, location/availability of a la carte lunch venues, clean towels being unavailable for several hours due to a shortage and a complete lack of availability in any of the non buffet restaurants for dinner during our stay means it is difficult to recommend the hotel. We were also incorrectly charged on more than one occasion, with the managers unable or unwilling to recalculate the bill saying that they will "knock off the extra" the following day if we came back, which we declined and eventually they did amend the bill. The website also needs to be revamped as it is difficult to use on a phone (trying to download menus, for example) and also inaccurate. Restaurants were listed as closed when they were open, and on arrival we tried to book Capri Court for the following evening to be told that one has to book several days ahead. As no where seems to be open everyday, we would be gone by the time it was next open. We have stayed at true 5* hotels where advance bookings are required - but they have all had an app, which guests are encouraged to book activities and restaurants before their visit. Despite lengthy email exchanges with the bookings team (as we were unable to pay online due to a website fault) we were not advised that we needed to book anything in advance. Similarly, we found the "daily activities" schedule somewhere on the website, but there was no information given to us at check in which was unusual, not that they had any spaces (from what we observed at the pool, anyway!) As an aside, we were told by a staff member that the Hilton is taking the hotel on in 2026 and many staff have not had their contracts renewed. It certainly felt like the staff were trying to "make do" rather than were empowered with up to date training (or information) to successfully do their job, and I also doubt that the comments for improvement made in reviews will ever happen if the management is openly "finished" with the resort.

We enjoyed a lovely vacation with our 18 month old baby in this property - it has everything you need to enjoy for a family. Beach, pools, splash pad, camel/pony ride & best highlight is the kids play zone. Food - I was worried about food & mailed the team in advance - they responded with a list of baby food options. But thankfully, the buffet spread was large & we could find enough options for the baby. Restaurant options are limited if you want to skip the buffet- so we ended up trying the Seafood & Italian ones for dinner. Room service menu is good as well- with kids specific portions which were quite sizeable. Beach & Pools are clean- Friday evening gets extremely crowded! Though Play zone is perfect with activities for kids above 4years- we could spend sometime with our toddler who loved running around, hugging toys & exploring. Sunset camel/ pony ride was the highlight of our stay- it's a memory for a lifetime!

We are enjoying a wonderful 10 days holiday in Al Waha. The Service is great, the various food in all kind of restaurants amazing, good program for kids, nice water sports facilities. Especially Den at Reception is extremly helpful, Marybel & Radikat at the poolbar super friendly and efficient, Massoud great fitness trainer & entertainer and Sudarshan our housekeeper in the wonderful room 3262 is doing a great job. Al reataurants are outstanding with service and big compliments to the kitchen for their quality and variety of food. Entire family extremly happy. Thank you 🙏🏻

We had a great time! Our kids loved the kids club and all of the wonderful staff members who they interacted with. All hotel personnel were friendly and helpful, and the concierge was great in assisting with activities (and really all of our needs and questions).

Gorgeous beach, pools and lovely people at the kids club. The Bait al Bahr restaurant was delicious. The staff were very kind.

Overpriced and underwhelming, even though the photos of the resort and the name indicate one resort we were placed in the family and kids area (Al wafa) This is not what we paid for or were expecting.
