Balmoral Arms

Here’s a review that exceeds 100 characters: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Balmoral Arms. The hotel is beautiful, comfortable, and full of character. The staff were warm and attentive, the food was excellent, and the location was perfect for exploring the surrounding area. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Highlands.

This is advertised as a 4 star but it was very tired and lacking in quality, breakfast was poor when asking for a flat white coffee I was told the machine was not on! The food was not 4 star and staff were lack lustre and very few off them. Underwhelming considering the cost.

Booked the Balmoral Arms as part of a few days visiting Balmoral Castle and the highlands. It's ideally placed in the centre of Ballater which allows you to walk straight out the front door and explore the local town. Parking is on the street or in the free car park close by. We were checked in and headed to room 5 via two flights of stairs which may be an issue if you have mobility issues. The room itself was ok but to be honest a little underwhelming based on it's a 4 star hotel and quite expensive but I accept some of that price is location. The good points are a comfy bed and a quiet stay during our time there. The disappointing things were the cord broken on main bedroom sash window meaning you could not open it and bathroom window very stiff to operate. I understand these type of windows are in keeping with the style of the hotel but it looked like many years since they had operated properly. There was also black mold around some of the frame which is a bit off putting for a four star hotel. We ate in the restaurant one evening and enjoyed it and breakfast was ok. The hotel reception was very insistent on saying you must select a breakfast and evening meal slot. I understand the evening meal situation but we walked into breakfast on our last day to a empty room at half seven to be asked have you booked a table ! To conclude hotel location is great and we had a good sleep in a quiet comfortable room. Improvements for my stay are fix windows decorate room and add some extra touches such as tissues and biscuits in room that match 4 star rating.
