Newport News Marriott at City Center

Staff was professional, facility was well-maintained. The room was large and clean, but the bed was hard and the AC, loud enough to disrupt sleep. Also, the property was crawling with security. Some might find that reassuring; me, not so much.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was very clean and food was great.

Love The Canopy. The atmosphere. They are family-friendly. Service is top notch. It is a beautiful place to stay. P. S. Try not to miss the sun-set view!

My family (Manley Family Reunion) had a family reunion on August 22nd and 23rd 2025. We had the most AMAZING experience with Michelle Vick, Events Coordinator and the Red Coat staff especially Nyemsh and Crescente Prince. The whole service crew were excellent. They did not miss a thing. Very professional, detailed oriented, caring and always had a smile. The communication was amazing, and they actually felt like family. I can not thank all of them enough. Please let them know that Katrina Gay, and the Manley Family Reunion greatly appreciate them all they do. They truly are a valuable asset to the company and this hotel. Thank you again.

So you check in to a Marriott (you’ve given them your loyalty for >20 years after all).. but separate from loyalty/ what’s the actual excuse of a Marriott hotel (not a Fairfield or Courtyard but a full service Marriott)- a brand which is profitable enough to maintain their hotels, in a state like Virginia which is wealthy on the taxpayer dime- to sell rooms that resemble a motel 6? What’s their excuse for providing lousy accommodations for members who have the highest levels of status? (Although it shouldn’t require status to get a clean room). The rooms are dingy, dated and dirty. The service is lacking, and the cost is not worth it. First - avoid this hotel like the plague. Next, reconsider the brand. Marriott is clearly just a motel 6 these days, if judging by this venue. (And there are many other examples of properties which are even worse)

Lo (works in the kitchen) went out of his way after the kitchen was technically closed, to get us lunch before our meeting with a client next door. He, and the Marriott manager, were very accommodating. It was much appreciated.

I enjoyed my staying at the hotel.

The Concierge lounge, the food and services were excellent! Gabby and Kerry were very friendly! Always nice to see their smile!!! 😊
