Ambassador Hotel

Well located. Staff speak English and seem to understand western tourists’ needs very well. The 9th floor restaurant is pricey but has a fabulous view.

- Reasonably central - 4 Star hotel but no in-room kettle to make tea. Inexcusable - Breakfast expensive at 1100 roubles so didn't use it - Old TV's with no HDMI socket - working mini bar fridge - Helpful staff - Questionable security. Some Japanese tourists unlocked my room door with a digital key. How could this happen unless the code system is faulty or the front desk had mistakenly programmed the wrong room number on their card? Front desk sent a fruit basket in apology. - Didn't use pool OK hotel but could be better. Wouldn't stay here again because security is questionable and it was 1km from the central area. Metro station 200 m away

My friends and I had four rooms when we were there in late September. The lobby, bar/cafe and public spaces were much more attractive and luxurious than the rooms. The location is good. There was not usually someone at the concierge's desk, though the other personnel were helpful. There were small tour groups staying at the hotel, and at times more staff should have been available. The housekeeping was adequate but could have been more thorough, particularly in the bathrooms.

We requested a change of room, the first one being in need of refurbishment and noisy. Following this we were allocated a far superior room and had a delightful stay. The hotel is well positioned for sight seeing and visiting places of interest although the immediate area is a little run down. The a la carte menu is simply excellent with a high standard of food, however the buffet is adequate rather than good. Service in the restaurant, bars and reception was always very good.

It is a nice hotel, with many nice features , but it is a long walk to tourist attractions in St. Petersburg. The room was small, even for European standards, and the air conditioning could not keep the room cool enough to sleep comfortably. The staff at the front desk were great, and the breakfast buffet was outstanding, but three times the 24 hour concierge was no where to be found. I think it was too expensive for the room we were in.

The staff was unresponsive to emails before the trip,and rather stiff at check in. Rooms did not have an electric kettle or mugs which is considered basic amenities in a hotel with these room rents. Breakfast is very expensive at 1100 roubles a person when a sumptuous meal can be had for 3 to 400 roubles just round the corner.

The hotel looks like the pictures they show, very friendly and helpful stuff, close walking distance to all the main city attractions, located in a good, safe area of the city. Hotel is very clean, we had the standard room, but it was pretty big and cozy. Hotel provides a lot of extras and it's free of charge, things like kids bathrobe, silverware, shaving kits and so on. Haven't tried the food there unfortunately due to busy schedule, but nice and reasonable gift shop. Russians and foreign people stay there, would recommend to anyone.

The mattress was too soft for me. The breakfest could be better.
