"Expected More Based on Reviews"

We stayed here only because our regular resort was closed for renovation. 2 stars only for the staff, who are kind, hardworking, and deserve tips. We had Privilege/VIP, and it was not clear what the benefits were—did not feel like an upgrade. Beach is pretty but has too much shade, so you must move sunbeds to get sun. Sunbeds are basic; Bali beds are shaded and impractical. Food was a big letdown: bland, lacking seasoning, long waits, and inconsistent quality. The Steakhouse was the best of the à la carte restaurants, but steak temperatures are off (order well done for medium-rare). Mexican restaurant was below average; hibachi nothing special. Lobby is dark and uncomfortable, bathrooms not clean. Only one smoking area near the lobby with no seating. Great staff, talented animation team—but overall the resort does not deliver on comfort or value.

"Mediocre"

It’s 3 star resort located in the nice beach. The rooms very outdated with very thin walls, we had small child in the neighboring room and it was a nightmare at nights. The door in the bathroom wasn’t closing fully, broken chairs in the patio. Very minimal entertainment, the food is mediocre and service is almost none. We’ve been in many different 4-5 stars resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Don’t get me wrong - I really had no great expectations since it’s not very expensive one. We got privilege package, which should be better than just regular experience I guess. It’s probably worse here since there’s dedicated beach area with better chair lounges and with more availability of them. There’s almost no service on the beach - so if you need a drink you go to only one bar and get your drink staying 10-15 minutes in the line. Also, you can’t get more than 1 beach towel, which I’ve never experienced before anywhere really. So you choose - you lay on it or use it as a towel. All food in the buffet smells like some chemicals, could be from dishwashing liquid or some oil they use, not sure. BLoved privilege restaurant is good, no questions. Not possible to get a reservation to Japanese, Italian and steak house restaurants.The only great experience was with the beach and the sea - they are perfect, not much sargassum and they clean it all the time. So never again, sorry.

"Pizzeria"

I am here now and everything is so amazing except the girl that works at the pizzeria. She’s so angry if you ask for more than a slice, what she doesn’t realize is one parent is likely ordering for their entire family. She’s ruined the mood of this place. It seems like she hates being here in general unlike the rest of the staff who are so lovely and warm.

"Poor Customer Service at Reception"

Room #6208- 1* star due to poor customer service. Reception made a mistake entering my phone number and could not change without me bringing my PASSPORT to reception. Ridiculous. Went to reception to book a la cart which isnt convenient as our building is closest to the beach. Was told there was almost no times available except very late 9pm+. Couldn't use reservation system until I figured out myself I could use Google sign in. When I did I discovered there were many time slots available. Front desk is useless. *This is the most annoying part - check out is at 12pm and you can't extend it- I dont even mind paying. I went to reception 3 different times and was told 3 different things about courtesy rooms. Today I showed up at 8am because I was told to come back in the 'morning' day of checkout only to be told I have to come back 9am to see IF a courtesy room is available. Not one of those people at reception told me it was 9am. This has put a damper on what otherwise would have been a good vacation with a hiccup for a la cart reservations. I travel for 4 times a year - but won't be returning to any Catalonia resort as they make your last day as inconvenient as possible. Staff in restaurants are great , food is good, everything is very clean but that doesn't matter when management doesn't care about the experience you have on checkout day. This part of Maroma beach is so beautiful. I will be booking with Secrets next time as they are next to this resort.

"Lower your expectations and you’ll be much happier"

The grounds and landscaping is amount the best I have seen in this area, the room was nice, that is once the power was restored. If you are not used to resorts this may be an ok experience for you, but perhaps I was expecting a bit too much. I would give this a 3 star rating not the 5 star rating that you might see. While they do “offer” 7 restaurants good luck getting into them. They are smaller boutique style and availability is scarce. The buffet is nice just know that’s where they want you. If you want options on beer or wine in your inclusive package you will not find it here. However they do offer you a wine list with pricing in pesos. Liquor is not going to much above mid shelf at best, and only between 11-6 unless you take the 5 min walk up the lobby. Beaches are nice and clean though we did enjoy that. But with only warm water in the mornings no hot water ever and staff that says oh well, well you know the value your getting. The only resort we have been too that we will not be coming back to ever.
