It was very well maintained. This is an older property and they have done a great job updating it. It has a very nice pool and Jacuzzi and the location can’t be beat. Right on the coast, just down the road from Hanalei. They have a nice shuttle that takes you into Hanalei which is really a plus! The staff is friendly and eager to please. This property has a lot of charm and I would happily come back.

There were a few things in the property that needed fixing, but overall it was excellent. The sliding screen door onto the lanai didn’t slide easily. Just need some attention. Also, the fan in the bathroom was noisy. Those things were pretty minor because otherwise the room was beautiful and clean, bed was very comfortable. The only thing that really bothered us was that there is a stream outback behind our unit that has bullfrogs in it. At night they are doing their mating calls and it can be loud. Since there is no air-conditioning at this hotel, you do sleep with your windows open so that is a problem.

Great location next to Ha'ena Beach Park and turtle beach, best beaches on the island and next to the national park. Only a short ride to Princeville.

Internet was not the best. Was working remotely and was sometimes cutting in and out which was at times frustrating.

Beautifully located in Hanalei- perfect place to stay in Hanalei if you have an upper unit. Walking distance to beautiful non crowded beaches.

the beds (all beds in the room) were way too soft- old mattresses. everything else was wonderful !

Lovely property with front access to the beach! They had awesome welcome gifts- water bottles and a tote which was actually useful and thoughtful. The rooms were extremely spacious and the property was well maintained. Also- the staff was very kind. I would highly recommend this charming location where you can escape the hustle and bustle of hanalei bay.

Hanalei colony resort is special. It’s beautiful yet genuinely laid back, devoid of the pretentiousness of other resorts. The staff were welcoming, helpful, and accommodating—one even held our baby as we packed the car! Our suite was well appointed, and even had good supplies for cooking. The location is close enough to Hanalei to benefit from all the activity there, but also far enough to feel quiet and separate. The resort essentially has a beach to itself, with gorgeous views of nearby mountains. We can’t wait to go back again.

Spent several days here with my brother and sister-in-law, and we had an absolutely fantastic experience. (I chose "friends" as our category because we're all adults, and most people look to the "family" category for kid-related reviews.) Our condo was spacious and clean, the single couch/bed in the second room was actually comfortable (!), the location is great for so many beautiful beaches and activities along the north shore, and the entire staff was very welcoming and kind. Loved having the beach nearby so we could roll out of bed and watch the sunrise. It was a perfect launchpad for adventures across the entire island. We can't wait to come back!

TLDR- The staff and experience were disappointing and if you want the best experience, stay at the one or in an Airbnb. I was so disappointed in the Hanalei colony resort. The location is incredible and has beautiful views, but our stay was ruined by the incessant construction. We received an email a couple days before our arrival saying there would be construction at the property. This was quite concerning for my party because we were planning a relaxing vacation (and would have booked a different hotel had we known), so we asked what that would mean for the guests. The resort reassured us that we would not notice it, meanwhile when we arrive, they are rebuilding the deck outside of our room. There was also construction happening throughout the grounds. For the first two days, we were woken up by construction, but ultimately decided to stick it out because we spent most of the day at the beach. For our last day, it was raining (as it does in North Kauai) and because the construction was so disruptive (imagine sitting next to a construction site), we decided to leave a day early. We brought these concerns up to the staff and they were completely unhelpful. In talking with the other guests, they had also brought up the concerns and nothing came of it. In the end, I wish I had booked another hotel or airbnb, and would recommend anyone who plans to visit Kauai do the same.
