Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach

I have stayed at this property many times and had a pleasant stay. Not this time. I was awakened from my nap by a call from someone who claimed to be a representative from Marriott (their first lie) who was actually a time-share salesman. H was extremely rude, and when I followed up with the manager I was told that he does not work for Marriott and there was nothing they could do. I researched it, and the Courtyard literally sold me name and ROOM NUMBER to an outside company that they KNEW would use high-pressure tactics to sell me something. It is deeply, deeply disrespectful. I am an Ambassador Member at Bonvoy, which means I stay more than 100 nights a year at Marriotts and spend tens of thousands of dollars. I've never been treated so rudely. Unless you can get the Courtyard to agree not to sell or give your name and room number to any outside companies, I recommend avoiding this property.

This place is an absolute dump. We had a long flight from San Francisco and arrived late evening. The desk agent, Maynard, was very pleasant and gave us our room keys. When we entered our room, there was no a/c running, so we tried to turn on the wall unit. It did not respond. We called the desk, and Maynard sent someone up to check it, that was unsuccessful. We were moved to a different room, and the a/c was off. We turned it on, it ran for about 20 seconds, and quit. We asked Maynard to check us out no charge. We took a cab to the Marriott Beach Resort and checked in there -- far better! The cab driver said the neighborhood around the Courtyard has a lot of bars and night clubs, and there is a fight almost every night, and a lot of noise late. There is no meal service there, and the desk refers guests to the iHop. Honestly don't know why Marriott tolerates such a property. Avoid!!

Unfortunately our experience at the courtyard was not like a usual Marriott experience. Our room was not clean for 6/7 days, we called the front desk everyday requesting a cleaning when they didn’t show up, and also told them as we left. And walked into an unclean room, no new towels, no garbage taken out every single day. The first room we were put in was not connected to the main building, this room was comparable to a motel 6, will include picture, old stuff from past occupants was left, the water wouldn’t get warm for 10+ minutes and we were told that was normal. The door had a gap in bottom so there was bugs. It was not a great experience and we will not be coming back, for the price we payed it should have been a better experience, nicer rooms etc.

Staying in a 1 bedroom suite (couple plus teen) on the 9th floor facing Kuhio St for 8 nights. The room is clean and a good size, there’s a narrow long balcony and the bed is very comfortable. The fold out couch in the living room does the job as a second bed. There’s a a Smart TV in the bedroom as well as living room, and small conveniences like usb points. The hotel free wifi is appreciated. Aircon in both the living room and bedroom. There are basic kitchen facilities, including a bar fridge, microwave and coffee maker although I’d prefer a standard kettle to boil water. While two disposable coffee cups are provided I’d prefer a few more basic kitchen facilities like coffee cups, cutlery, plates/bowls/glasses. The bathroom is good/standard with a shower over bath, however the water pressure to the bath/shower/basin is very low. Light cleaning is provided every two days, with a full clean on the fourth day. The hotel pool and bar is lovely and the location is great. Everything you need on your doorstep and just a short walk down to Waikiki beach. There is street noise, but not so much that it’s disrupted our sleep. It’s an older hotel with fresh modern furnishings. It’s not of a high-end luxury standard, but for value for money it’s great and I’d definitely recommend it as a good option when staying in Waikiki.

Some staff were more responsive that others! Problems weren't huge (safe wouldn't work nor the tv remote because there were no batteries). Maintenance guy was great but had to chase him up. Big issues with self-service laundry washing machines and dryers - they guy on reception took my details but didn't follow thru. Disappointed I couldn't use the balcony due to maintenance issues, and it was very, very noisy - I was on second floor (never again). Majority of staff were great, just one or two who let the side down.
