Hix Island House

We only stayed 2 nights, so I don't think we fully experienced everything this place had to offer, but we really enjoyed our time there. It was very quiet and comfortable. The architecture is very cool, and the way it was designed really did seem to keep the place quite cool even without AC. It was fun to see all the wild horses grazing on the lawn and fall asleep to the noises of the coqui frogs. The showers are sort of indoor/outdoor...covered, but open to the elements. It was a very cool experience to shower while stargazing. Beds were super comfortable. They don't mention breakfast anywhere in their literature, but based on what I read from other guest reviews, I was a little disappointed by the breakfast. I was expecting a variety of tropical fruits, and they only had oranges when we were there. But, regardless, it was nice to be able to eat a quick breakfast right at the hotel and get going with our day. Food options on the island are a bit limited so it would have been a bit inconvenient to have to find a place for breakfast each day. Overall, a very nice experience. I would recommend and consider staying here again if I'm ever lucky enough to get back to Vieques island!

We loved Hix House! There is nothing like it. The beauty of the architecture, the gardens and the landscape is incredible. All the bad reviews are correct: it is not a luxury hotel. There is no ice machine. There are huge spiders. There is no AC, WiFi in the rooms is iffy, and there are no screens, so bugs (and birds ) get in the room. But that is all part of the charm. If stuff like that bothers you, maybe Vieques isn’t your thing. We looked into other places to stay and nothing compares to Hix House. We stayed in Redonda 4 which was great. Lovely view over the pool of the island and the sea beyond as well as spectacular moon rises. So quiet and peaceful. The kitchen was stocked with milk, juice, coffee, butter, jam, bread, eggs, oil, salt, pepper, and sugar. There is a four-burner gas cooktop, French press, kettle, pots and pans. We cooked our own breakfasts and most dinners as a result. Tips if you go: check that the ice cube tray was filled, Family Market has a much bigger selection than The Green Store, and definitely rent a Jeep.

The architecture of the property is stunning. Although knowing we are in the Caribbean mosquitos and lizards, and even spiders I could handle, they provide a mosquito net over bed. However when going to sleep we noticed a giant beetle inside our net. I was not a fan and had to book something else. This was not mentioned and I was offered no refund to my stay.

The property was comfortable enough but is showing signs of age. Front desk and yoga were great! We are last minute travelers and that may be the cause we felt less value for this property.

The most secluded and serene property, on top of the mountains with the ocean showing on the horizon. Unbelievable architecture amid lush green mountain top. Definitely unforgettable!

Hix House has to be one of my favorite stays of all times. The rooms and grounds are beautiful as they are unique. The staff really is the greatest team, that ensured your stay is unforgettable. Carmen and Marie went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. I suggest taking Maureens yoga class, she was awesome! Disfrutar!

This place is truly magical! I was there for a yoga retreat for 6 days and I was really able to fully recharge. Beds were comfortable, outdoor showers were incredible! Only things that could be improved were small; they are pretty cheap on the towels. They are good quality, but they are small, including their "beach towels" which were as thin as looseleaf paper. Also, they do supply you with coffee you can make yourself but it is the wrong grind for a French press, so you wind up getting a ton of sediment in the bottom of your cup. Also, it would be great if they had enough yoga props on premises, given they have a lovely yoga pavilion. But overall, Hix is outstanding!

We hated this property so much we checked out after one night. We had bugs everywhere and the room was very hot. I've stayed in other eco friendly properties before but this one was way too "economy" for the price. Had to sleep in mosquito nets, they provided only small fans for each side of the bed. The garage type of door was dangerous to operate and if we closed it entirely to keep bugs away, it was too hot. Just not the right property. The area was extremely remote and was difficult to find our actual room. Do not check in off hours because you will likely get lost. The two towns on the island were very run down and service at the restaurants was extremely slow. Will not return.

Beautifull staff very friendly and helpful, the place amazing, beautiful This a place that I will visit again with friends or family. The horses running in the wild spectacular. Staff goes out of their way.
