Azulik - Adults Only

Disappointing. Unfortunately, I found the staff to be unwelcoming and snobbish. We went to celebrate our last night dinner in Tulum and the experience was disappointing. Upon arrival, the staff did not give us a chance to either see the menu or the place, before we could even sit down. Upon arrival, they barked at us: “You have to consume a minimum of $1500 Mexican Pesos per person (USD $75.00) if you want to see the rooftop.” Of course we were planning to spend more than that but felt un welcomed with the hostess demands. It gave me the impression that a bunch of teenagers go to drink in the rooftop and do not consume enough to sustain their expensive infrastructure. Anyway, we sat down for dinner at their main restaurant and never saw the rooftop. The prices were all the same ($800 Mexican pesos / USD $40 for appetizers and $1500 Mexican / $75 USD pesos for main plates). I ordered the sea bass, which was undercooked and made me sick!

No tuvimos agua caliente 2 noches, no habia presion de agua y el gerente Eduardo no aparecia. Tuvimos que esperar 2 dias hasta poder hablar con el despues de hacer reclamos sin ninguna respuesta en recepcion. Aparecio despues de 2 dias que no tuvimos agua y dijo QUE NO PODIA HACER NADA. La atencion es un desastre por donde la veas. Es la segunda vez que voy a azulik. Esta vez me senti completamente estafado. Pesimo todo nada para rescatar NO RECOMIENDO A NADIE QUE VAYA.

We stayed at Azulik this February in a Sea Villa, and the experience was truly mixed. It’s unique and artistic — it feels like stepping into a sculptural treehouse sanctuary. Our Sea Villa itself was beautiful, with a gorgeous tiled outdoor tub, swing and incredible aesthetic details. It’s a visually striking property. Melanie, our concierge, was friendly, responsive, and very helpful throughout our stay. However there were several disappointments. While the basics in the room appeared cleaned, there were noticeable gobs of hair around the bed and bathtub, which detracted from what should have felt like a luxury stay. The sea and sky villas are built very close together, offering no privacy, you can see and hear everything- something to be aware of if you’re expecting a secluded atmosphere. The beach area is small and located next to a public access point, which was busy during our visit. It felt crowded, and there were not enough lounge chairs to accommodate the number of guests. On every occasion when we spent time at the beach, we received no service or greeting. When we requested towels, we were told they were out and never received any. The beach area was not cleaned at the end of each day, so in the mornings the seating areas were scattered with dishes, glassware and food scraps. The overall vibe during our stay felt more like a spring break or Burning Man–style retreat than a tranquil luxury escape. Also, the water in the shower, sink, and outdoor tub was brine, which may align with their eco-concept but was unexpected. It’s beautiful & unique, but the service consistency, cleanliness & beach experience did not align with the price point.

This is a beautiful resort with a thoughtful design. There are so many positives that out weighed the few negatives. The check in was quick and easy. They do not ask for a credit card to hold cause everything is pay as you go. You can’t charge food or drinks to the room. The concierge Stacy led us on a tour which included a spiritual cleansing ceremony and then a short tour of the grounds. When we arrived at our room we were amazed at the beauty and uniqueness of the room. We booked a sky view villa which faces the ocean and our room was a top floor room. There are a few stairs to climb and the path from the resort entrance to the room is tricky with the unusual round wood logs used for the path. We got used to it. This room does have air conditioning, a shower and two electric light switches. The rest of the lighting at night is candlelight which you must light unless you ask the concierge to have that done for you. We loved the unusual stone tub and rainfall shower that uses natural cenote water. There isn’t a dedicated space to have your suitcase and the place for hanging clothes had 2 hangers and maybe would hold 5-7 garmets anyway. The view was amazing and the sunrise is beautiful. The small toilet area is in the room in a large wooden enclosure. There’s not much privacy. The rooms around you can very easily see into part of each others rooms but the bed area is not seen. We did have a broken board on the deck and the guys fixed it immediately. There isn’t a front desk to call if you have a problem, you have to message your concierge. The complimentary breakfast is very limited! They do have an amazing menu if you wanted to pay . The beach area is small and the covered beds fill quickly as they also allow outside guests in with day passes. The food and drinks at the beach are good. Again I don’t like having to pay each and every time I get something to eat or drink at a resort. My wife visited the spa and loved the Azulik signature treatment. Had to pay for that right then too. The nightly party on tue rooftop is a fun experience the first time and afterwards it got old with so many outside people coming in and the loud music and multiple blowing of the conch shell was tiresome.I understand this is likely a money maker and draws people to their resort. Overall this is a great experience and you have to know the openness of the rooms and the little amenities that they don’t have of your used to a modern resort. We really loved it and would come back.

Arquitetura muito bonita, realmente um show à parte

Apareceu um animal DENTRO do nosso quarto nas duas noites em que ficamos lá. Não nos deram nenhum número de segurança/recepção do hotel (nao há telefone nos quartos), apenas de uma concierge que só atende das 9 às 17h. Ficamos desesperados, eu grávida, com medo de sair da cama e o animal nos atacar. Não conseguimos ver qual era… talvez um guaxinim ou um macaco. O hotel tinha obrigação de dar algum número para este tipo de ocorrência. Além disso, os preços são elevadíssimos (dos restaurantes)… fora da realidade.

Azulik was amazing experience from the time we checked until the moment we left. The staff was who was excellent and our room was incredible. We stayed in the sea dweller suite and the upgrade was totally worth it. The views from the balcony and the private pool were bucket list worthy. We tried three restaurants on site and all were excellent and some of the best food we ate in Tulum. The rooms were fully air-conditioned and seemed to be carved out of the jungle canopy. It was truly a unique and wonderful experience. Highly recommended! Just book it and get the best room you can. We will be back soon.
