Sunbay Hotel

We were disappointed with our room as we booked a superior room and the room we were given was very basic. It was in need of redecoration with repairs needed to plaster work and poorly finished electrical renovations. No desk, no pictures and stained furniture. One rickety table lamp. In the bathroom, no cupboards, bath shower had a moldy curtain. Toilet was stained. We had thought we would have a king size bed but instead there was two double beds so we just used one bed. Be clear when you book if you want a double bed. I asked to change rooms but 3 days in with being told I needed to speak to another manager I gave up. I overheard another guest with the same issue at reception. Breakfast was low end, often looked like scraps with strange rules about which style of eggs you could have each day. The food didn’t look like the pictures. We stayed for two weeks and never saw a tomato! Restaurant and kitchen staff were consistently miserable as if they didn’t want to be there. Birds were on the table because they weren’t thoroughly clean of crumbs. Almost every time we had the opportunity to look, the sole bar and sole restaurant were closed and no information about restaurant opening times or menus were available anywhere. On a more positive note. The gardens and pool looked very inviting and were well kept. We didn’t make use of this facility. Location is a quiet part of the south coast with some nearby hotels overlooking the beach and offering substantially better restaurant/bar services. We used these hotels and other venues for meals and evening drinks. Oistins is a 20 minute walk for supermarket, ATM, great cafe etc. We were happy with the location. We loved Barbados! Just not the hotel.

The staff were very helpful and polite, very very happy with the staff !!!

Disgraceful state of disrepair. Totally spoilt Christmas for us. The hotel is in a terrible state and needs some serious attention. We stayed on the top floor(4th) even before the rain started running down the interior walls through light fittings and electrical sockets the rook was so water damaged the furniture was mouldy. The hotel were in no way equipped to deal with the water and at one point ran out of towels because all were used to mop up. The senior staff were quite hostile toward our complaints. It has obviously been leaking for many years and it shows. We had to fight Virgin Atlantic Holidays to be moved but it was so worth the battle. We will never understand why they have this hotel on their portfolio. DO NOT GO

Don’t believe the bad reviews on here, some people seem to pick a cheap venue then expect it to be 5 star. Rooms are spacious and clean. (Only a microwave and kettle which we asked for, also no cutlery) The pool area is lovely clean and quiet, always beds free. The breakfast is nice, and they change it up a bit every day, always plenty. The staff are friendly and helpful. The lunch menu is nice and not too expensive. Can walk to the beach in minutes. We were allowed to use Barbados beach club, beach sun loungers, which is about 200 yards away. It’s a cheap hotel so is basic in that the bar shuts early eve, no kids club, no evening restaurant, so this also encourages you to get out in the evenings. There’s 2 restaurants very close and the Barbados beach club hotel which lets you pay to use there buffet which was nice. Otherwise it’s a long walk or a taxi/reggae bus to restaurants/nightlife. If you want to go to Barbados on a budget go here, the island is beautiful, the people are so friendly and it’s really safe.

Very tired, dilapidated property. Old dirty shower and curtain. Broken bathroom fittings. Thick dust in room on walls and pictures over bed. Disgustingly filthy lampshade with dust and stains next to bed. Constantly needing loo roll and soap replenished and having to ask. Ridiculous charge for the beach towels - $15 deposit per person, per towel and then a further €1 per person per day for them to keep! Disgusting and greedy. Poor bar selection, with poor opening hours. No dinner service or entertainment. Third floor broken window with shattered glass and no boarding over it- very poor health and safety hazard.

Le petit déjeuner est très restreint, avec peu de choix et une alimentation de très basse qualité. Le bâtiment de l'hôtel est mal entretenu, les infrastructures sont vieillissantes et les espaces communs sont médiocres (les chambres, quant à elles, sont propres). De plus, il y a des infiltrations d'eau lors de fortes pluies. Bref, cet hôtel mérite un important coup de rénovation.
