"The Great British letdown...NOT worth the calories!"

2.0

We came, we saw, we ate tepid custard. A chance discovery of a Facebook post led to my wife and I booking to visit Karma Salford Hall and attend their Pudding Night in April. It was a less than stellar experience and after an exchange of emails where we provided constructive feedback, we were invited back for the July event. In what can only be described as a bittersweet sequel to April’s “mildly disappointing” Pudding Club, the July event managed to deliver a performance so bewildering that even our spoons seemed to lose the will to dig in. Let’s start on a positive: the Sticky Toffee Pudding was *passable*. Not life-changing, not award-winning, not even particularly sticky — but, crucially, passable. From there, however, things took a tragic turn. The chocolate mousse had all the rich indulgence of a budget Easter egg. The rhubarb crumble, that most noble of British desserts, arrived in disguise — namely, as rhubarb purée under a suspicious dusting of what may or may not have once aspired to be flour. As for the Eton Mess, well... if the ghost of a meringue occasionally whispering through a cloud of cream is your thing, you’d have been thrilled. We weren’t. The Syrup Sponge was missing (or seemed to us at least) a vital ingredient - the syrup. Temperature control seemed to follow a sort of chaotic-neutral approach: hot puddings were lukewarm, cold ones leaned toward sauna. And serving them with freshly washed, *hot* spoons was a bold artistic choice — perhaps meant to soften the blow of eating room-temperature custard that ran like milk and tasted like... also milk. Let’s not overlook the portions. If you’ve ever stared into a ramekin and thought, “I wish this were emptier,” July’s Pudding Club was your moment. They were all about the size of two teaspoons - and not heaped either! Eton Mess, formerly served in proud sundae glory, was demoted to a lone dollop on a saucer, looking like it was being punished. But the pièce de résistance had to be the garnish — *watercress*. Yes, nothing says “pudding paradise” quite like the green stuff you'd usually find hiding under your roast beef. We wanted to love this. Truly. We even sent photographic evidence to the Events team, which we imagine is now pinned to the “Do Not Serve This Again” wall in the kitchen. The host for the evening Naomi’s closing remarks — including the casual mention that 14 of 16 guests *“hated”* the rhubarb crumble — really tied a bow on the whole surreal affair. To sum up: we appreciated the invitation. But in hindsight, a night in with a microwave sponge and a tin of Ambrosia might’ve offered more joy (and better temperature control). British puddings aren't just desserts — they're a full-contact sport. As my mum used to say, they're meant to be hot, stodgy affairs that "stick to your ribs". And don't forget the custard — thick enough to mortar bricks with, and hotter than the surface of the sun. If you're not slightly sweating while eating it, is it even British? And also just to add: whoever seems to control the social media side for the venue seem intent on keeping it a secret as it is hardly mentioned anywhere on their website or social media outlets...perhaps their trying to keep it a secret!

"A piece of English history"

8.0

Situated in a quiet location a short drive from Evesham, we were informed by staff that our room formed part of a hunting lodge once used by Henry V111. Quaint, overlooking the rear garden, the superior room was very comfortable and clean. Breakfasts were generous and staff professional and courteous at all times. With a small bar, restaurant and beer garden attached, the property hosted many events throughout our stay.

"Quite place near Stratford upon Avon"

8.0

As a member of the Karma Group I always wanted to try a place in UK, and last weekend I took the opportunity for 3nights. The staff are friendly and always willing to help with a smile especially the breakfast and bar staff, not to say the receptionist weren’t 😜 The building is 700 years old and it retains its characteristic. Therefore the only improvement comment is that the rooms were difficult to cool down even with 2 fans. With hotter British summers a plan to install aircons should be considered. The place and rooms are well kept and tidy, although we didn’t actually meet any housekeeping staff to comment about them, but the results says it all. We stayed in room 25 in Tudor court. The bathroom was on a floor up with in the room. I would recommend this place

"Fabulous property with wonderful staff"

10.0

We loved our 5 night stay here and highly recommend it. The whole property is picturesque, beautifully presented and maintained. Our room was very pretty, spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. The staff match the property, from our very warm and friendly welcome through to check-out, nothing was too much bother. In our 2 month holiday we have stayed at a lot of different properties across 4 countries, including the Hilton, and this place was our favourite. Situated in a great area for exploring the West Midlands region

"A must visit Karma property in UK if you are planning a calm leisure trip to Cotswold"

8.0

A Karma property situated in wonderful location close to cotswold and birmingham. Very comfortable rooms with all amenities. An electric vehicle charging station inside the property in parking area. Very supportive staff. House breakfast as well as made to order dishes available in breakfast ( 8 to 10 am). Indian food available for lunch and dinner. I suggest little improvement in house breakfast as I observed that post 9 am, items were not refilled, so limited options were available.

"Wouldn't go back"

4.0

Suowr hot room, I know they can't control the weather but the fan provided was ineffective. Shower was broken too and pilows are not nice. Everything is about trying to entice you to but the time share like karma holiday package and about upselling.

"Great for a break"

8.0

We had a delightful 3 day stay at Karma Salford Hall. The staff and management were welcoming and accommodating which we appreciated very much. Our rooms were comfortable and fans were provided to keep the room cool. We attended the Karma Social day - food, drink, music, games - thoroughly enjoyable and very relaxing.. A great family day out for the local residents who also attended the Social. This was our third stay and we will be happy to return..

"English hospitality in a perfect location."

10.0

Set in such an idyllic location, this hotel is a real gem. Once again we had a lovely short break which has given us long term happy memories. The place is full of old world charm and history. The staff are really helpful and food was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed relaxing in the beautifully tended gardens full of colourful flowers. There is lots to do nearby so it`s an advantage to have a car. Really interesting visit to nearby National Trust Coughton Court (The one with the famous new roof) but go early as the house tours get busy. Thanks especially to Andy for making us so welcome and introducing us to other lovely like minded Karma members at the Cheese and Wine evening.

"Best wedding venue"

10.0

We had our wedding at karma Salford hall and I can’t fault them! They were amazing from start to finish ! The wedding coordinator Ellie was so brilliant she has planned our wedding for 2 years now and has been amazing with communicating and answering all of my questions throughout! We had a few planning meetings and menu tastings all organised by Ellie and the team. On the day Ellie and the team were so helpful and organised it all ran so smoothly! We had the best time we could have ever asked for so thank you for all of your help planning our special day, we will definitely be back for future visits as it’s a lovely place with gorgeous food, thank you! "Excellent food, impeccable service, gorgeous venue."

10.0

We hosted a Welcome party for our baby boy where around 25 of our friends and family along with their kids were invited. The venue is nothing short of gorgeous and the marquee was just perfect for the kind of intimate event that we had in mind. We were given a very elaborate Indian menu and it’s worth mentioning that every single item on the buffet was absolute perfection, a rarity in the UK! We had seen pictures of the venue so we had no doubts about it. The food on the other hand was a bit of a gamble, but we were not disappointed in the end. Ellie was extremely helpful from the beginning and made sure that all our requirements were met and ultimately exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly and polite. Special shoutout to Naomi who lent her charger to me and was on top of things every time I needed something. The staff truly went out of their way to make sure the event was a success. I can’t recommend Karma Salford enough to anyone who may be considering it for an event or even a vacation because of the experience I had!
