Unique location and hotel and fabulous pool

This hotel is unique and well-worth a visit. We stayed in a "cave" room beautifully remodeled for modern travelers but retaining the feel of this historic, old-world hotel. All the rooms on our floor shared a spacious, walk-around balcony where you could sit at tables and be surrounded by Matera's charm. The room was large and comfortable -- although you'll need some help from reception to understand what all the switches control. And in warmer May weather as we experienced, the air conditioning is not yet turned on so ask for a fan (graciously provided to us) or be prepared to keep your front door open to let in the evening breeze. The staff was very helpful, the breakfasts delicious and the location wonderful. We wouldn't hesitate to return here.

I just posted a rave review of this hotel on TripAdvisor, but the gist is, it's a unique, historic place and well worth the money. Beautiful -- both the hotel and the historic old town of Matera.

I wish they would turn on their air conditioning system when it gets hot in May, but like many hotels, there is a specific time when they go from heating to air conditioning.

This hotel hás its reception in one adress and many cavern-rooms located far from the reception . Matera is really impressive but also labiríntic for a first time visit tourist . The hotel give you a phone number but no one respond your call when u need help. The worst is the huge unfriendliest recepcionist. It seems that you should never ask her anything that may distúrb.. but… the very worst are a fan-like old machine positioned some 30 cm of the bed with abales you every hour at nite.. I dont know of this thing is all over the other rooms but there was on ours
