Magnuson Hotel Dixon

Didn't see the beach. but the hotel more than met our needs. Clean and quiet.

The hotel was OK. Old but usable, mostly needed some attention to detail and TLC.

We decided to stop at the last minute and chose this hotel because of the price of $55. Unfortunately we didn't check the reviews. We had room 206. The green carpet was stained which didn't give us a good impression as we first entered. The room was warm when we entered so I went to turn on the air conditioning unit. I was shocked how dirty it was and didn't want to put it afraid of what would blow out. But it was warm so we chanced it. The unit worked. The TV didn't turn on so my husband had to move the dresser to find 1 side of the outlet didn't work and we saw the dirt behind it as well as behind the nightstand. The bed was well made, but you could tell the sheets were well used since they were thin. Needless to say I didn't sleep well. You can see stains on the walls as well that could easily be wiped down to make the place look cleaner. I then checked the bathroom. The tub was old and stained. I knew I wasn't going to shower in it. They also didn't give the internet pass for us to use. I hope to save someone else a stay here until they update it.

For the price of the room you could not find a better deal in Dixon. It would take about twice as much to receive an equal room anywhere in the city. I own hotels/motels all over the country and I know clean and a great deal and this is one of them.

Finally started a new, great job with lots of travel. Hotels/motels vary from 2 to 5 stars pending on location. Well, in Dixon, IL, a place to visit for no reason other than the random rural business trip (except for the Ronald Reagan childhood home museum) this motel is unspeakably horrifying. By far the worst in my life. I’ve traveled a lot. My hopes were still scant after staying at a Magnuson in Lenox, MA, which was kinda awful but ok for 2 nights and the only place to accept a large pet dog. Has since been demolished. But Dixon!!!! Moldy, no front desk service other than by phone, creepy half of hotel shuttered and shut down for years apparently. No phone in room. Room key didn’t work repeatedly. Zero security. Stay far, far away.

I really didn't expect a whole lot from this facility and they delivered exactly that. Room was clean, but overall entire facility needs upgrade and remodel. Good value for the price. I've stayed here on and off for the past 20 years (when it has been open) under various managements and it needs some TLC.

It was an old hotel. The wallpaper was peeling the bathtub was dirty the toilet was dirty.

Stinky. Smells.

Great hotel for the price. At this price point you are looking for a place to crash. Everything is dated but they do keep it clean. Sheets were good and bed not bad. Fridge in room and ice machine on first floor. Staff was excellent. Breakfast was extremely basic: toast, cereal, and yogurt. Convenient location close to Sauk Valley Community College. Not far from hospital if you need a super discount hotel for a long stay.
