"Musty Room, Charges for Bottled Water, Hot on the Third Floor & a Leaky Shower"

4.0

Our room was awful. It smelled of mold, the shower water leaked outside the glass area, it was very hot on the third floor and we had to pay for bottled water. In addition one of the front desk clerks smelled like pot, the street in front was very busy (so drop off and pick up have to be fast) and the fumes from cars were strong. The good news? The laundry, grocery store, market and central historic area were within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was small but the food was ok.

"Awful stay - this hotel is not what it markets itself to be!"

2.0

I was VERY disappointed by this hotel. It markets itself as a fancy mansion, but it is far from it! Basically the hotel is laid out like a Moorish house- with a central courtyard, which has been covered and converted into the lobby. What is horrible about this hotel is that many (if not most) rooms face the lobby, meaning that the only window in your room will face the lobby or the hallway which leads to the lobby. Imagine my horror when I entered my room, on the first floor, which was literally just a meter or two away from the sitting/bar area lobby itself. I felt like my room was in the lobby, and it kind of was! The window in my room opened, you guessed it, towards the lobby! So I had zero privacy, zero fresh air, and constant noise. There were rooms that were facing the breakfast area as well. Seriously, after having been to over 30 countries, this is by far the worst hotel layout I have ever seen. What I also did not like about this hotel is that : *** there is no air conditioning and no complimentary bottled water***. This is the only hotel during my Peru trip where bottled water was not provided complimentary by the hotel. In a place where you're told to drink lots of water due to the altitude, or if you're taking Diamox, this may be a problem. Luckily, there is a grocery store very close to the hotel, where you can get decently priced bottled water. The hotel rooms are clean but small, the safe was ancient and difficult to use. The staff at the front desk were stone-faced and not friendly at all. The servers at the small, cozy breakfast buffet area were attentive, although the food choices were limited. I liked the nice decor in the lobby, but you cannot put a Baroque-style painting in the lobby and in the rooms, and call yourself a mansion. For one, modern-day mansions have air conditioning! The nice decor cannot make up for all of these shortcomings. I felt like I was going to suffocate in this hotel, due to the combination of high altitude, and a lack of AC and fresh air. It is also very hard to sleep when your room faces the lobby as you hear literally everything. I would not stay here again, even if you paid me!

Location

Receptionist and manager both terrible customer service, be carful when you check in, They charge you taxes if you are an international citizen and we don’t have to pay that.

"Lovely comfortable room and great breakfast."

8.0

Very comfy rooms and beds with high spec furnishings and linens. Lovely shower room. Big TV. The breakfast was really excellent with plenty of choice and freshly prepared eggs. The wonderful waiter brought us fresh fried eggs every morning and he was very smiley and kind. Lovely common areas with comfortable seating. Covered over courtyard (unlike many other hotels where rain would make the courtyard unusable). We stayed six nights and it was very convenient.

There was a lot of noise in the early hours which was a problem most days. We therefore had to keep our window (onto the stairwell) closed which meant our room got too stuffy. It would be helpful if the noise could be kept down. I think it was just staff going about their business but seemed very early start, like 4am.

"Great location, but not the best room"

6.0

Breakfast and customer service was the best part of our stay. Breakfast had a lot of options include make your own waffles. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lobby area is beautiful. Room was TINY with no room to put luggage for 2 anywhere. Window looked out into the hallway. Bathroom was TINY, dirty and can use a deep cleaning or renovation. Also, we were able to hear the couple in the adjoining room through the bathroom vent... we heard their conversation, them going to the bathroom, etc. Unfortunately, they were talking pretty late into the night making it difficult to sleep. Bed was comfortable.

"Good comfortable stay"

8.0

Friendly, courteous and helpful staff. Clean spacious room with comfortable twin double beds. Handy sockets and USB ports for both 110 and 220v. Good breakfast attended by helpful courteous staff.

No lifts! For us in our mid 70s having to climb up two flights of stairs probably triggered the mild altitude sickness as soon as we got into the room. Door lock tricky and had to get help coming back on the second night. No tea coffee making facility in room. Mate de muña/de coca provided in the lobby unfortunately not our cuppa tea. No bottled water provided either.
