The difficult road and distance from city center

Our group of around 30 alumni from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya stayed at Amaya Hills Kandy from 22nd to 24th April 2026. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone. The hotel’s location is exceptional, sitting high on the hills with beautiful panoramic views of Kandy. The atmosphere is calm, quiet, and refreshing, making it perfect for a relaxed getaway. The environment was also very peaceful with very low noise levels, allowing us to fully enjoy the stay. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and well maintained, providing excellent comfort throughout our stay. Overall cleanliness across the property was also outstanding. The amenities offered were very good, and the service from the staff was consistently polite, helpful, and responsive, making our stay smooth and pleasant. Overall, the experience offered very good value for money. One small practical point is that the hotel is located at a steep hilltop, and larger luxury buses cannot directly access the property due to the railway bridge. However, this was well managed by the hotel, which arranged convenient shuttle transport from the parking area to the hotel, which we appreciated. During our stay, there was also occasional heavy rain and thunder, and as a safety measure the swimming pool was closed in the evenings during bad weather. While this limited usage slightly, it was clearly a responsible decision prioritizing guest safety. Overall, it was a wonderful stay in a stunning location with excellent service, comfort, and good value for money.

The Amaya Hills in Kandy is a good hotel. The view over the hills of Kandy is beautiful, and the rooms with hill views are especially recommended rather than the garden-side rooms. The rooms are good and modern, and the pool is large and very nice. The food is okay — not bad, but also not exceptional. Overall, the hotel facilities are somewhat limited, but acceptable. One negative point, however, must be clearly highlighted: the lady at reception during our check-out on the evening of 24 May. It was about a simple invoice for the last two nights. We waited in the lobby for around 15 minutes for the invoice, but she did not manage to prepare it during that time. Instead, she was busy with other things that apparently seemed more important. We then left, and she promised to prepare the invoice within the next two hours before our departure. When we returned two hours later, of course, it had not been done. There was complete confusion and clear signs of being overwhelmed. The so-called hotel manager was standing next to her. Unfortunately, I do not remember his name, but this should be traceable: it was during check-out on 24 May at around 9:00 p.m., when only one lady at reception and the manager were present. We then had to wait and discuss for another 15 to 20 minutes before finally receiving the invoice. This was very unprofessional and showed a lack of competence. In total, we waited more than half an hour for a simple invoice. This should be mentioned as a particularly negative point. Apart from that, the stay at the hotel itself was not bad.

The Spa was beyond our expectations. The location and the views from the rooms and the pool was amazing. dinner buffets were fairly good, with the black pork curry being the best. Fell in love with the well kept garden.

The bathrooms were bit too small and would be better with some rooms ad bathroom upgrading . The rooms were bit small for a triple. Would have been better if there are any larger rooms that can be sold as triples. The a'la carte food presentation and taste can be improved.

It was very relaxing and staff was very helpful at the restaurant, pool, gym and reception etc
