"Hotel Needs Updating"

6.0

We were staying in Hotel Santa Cruz for four nights prior to an adventure tour of Peru. The room was very basic and tired but very clean and had air conditioning and a TV. Clean bathroom with minimal toiletries. Breakfast was pretty good with a selection of hot and cold dishes but was the same every morning. Staff very friendly and great location of the hotel but seriously needed an update. Internet is sketchy and requires frequent log-ins.

"Need to take the bad with the good"

6.0

We had two separate stays of several nights at this hotel separated by three weeks. There were some good points, but overall they were just about matched by the negatives. Firstly, the hotel is well located within the safe, affluent neighbourhood of Miraflores, with lots of restaurants within walking distance. Also easy walk to local sites such as Kennedy Park, the Indian markets, Huaca Pucllana historic site and the coastal walkway. Other tourist sites in central Lima an inexpensive ride on Uber. The hotel itself has a lot of charm, build around a large central courtyard. The staff also tried to be helpful, though were often not proficient in English, and potable drinking water was always available from a cooler in the bar. That was not always the case at other hotels we stayed at in Peru and more broadly in South America. Negatives: All up we stayed 5 nights and invariably breakfast service was chaotic. Very often things would run out and not be replenished. Not sure if it was just under-staffing but it was an ongoing frustration for everyone concerned. In our first stay, the room was small and basic to say the least, no drinking glasses, bare walls and floor, and a hole in the bathroom ceiling (presumably for ventilation) allowed us to hear conversations from the next room. On second stay we had a much larger, more comfortable room on an upper floor. I should add our queen beds both stays were comfortable.

Cheap price, but you can do better. Rooms are tired (peeling flooring, curtains don’t fully close), very noisy (including construction type work) and bad breakfast.

"Try somewhere else."

4.0

I1d very happily stay anywhere else net time I visit Lima. The first room we stayed in was worn and odorous. There is little to no soundproofing in the rooms and you can reckon on hearing a lot of noise. The breakfast is simply a joke. They put out a dish of scrambled eggs that disappear within a couple of minutes and then it takes them about 20-25 minutes to turn up with more eggs. I asked for granola three time over 30 minutes and simply gave up in the end. They put out a plate of cheese and a plate of ham about every halt hour, regardless of how quickly the plates empty. Hardly anyone at the hotel can speak any English. The location is sort of nice and the guy at the front gate was very helpful, although no English vocabulary.

"Definitely avoid!"

2.0

Very disappointing start to our South America vacation! Reception staff try to please but the manager is rude. The room was tired and bedding and towels poor quality. Curtains were mouldy and difficult to draw. Only one small shampoo and tiny piece of soap supplied for two people. The website photos of the rooms are very misleading! Avoid this hotel and g adventures would be advised to find an alternative hotel for their Perú tours!!!

"Not a good experience"

4.0

Not a pleasant experience. The hotel was tired, unclean and generally very poor in all aspects. Our room only had half the bed linen and the curtains had what appeared to be mould stains. We were able to get an additional duvet and soap/shampoo but our 2 nights at the hotel did not leave a good impression. Certain members of staff were very helpful but the hotel needs a revamp if it is to market itself in the manner in which it advertises.

"Avoid"

4.0

G adventures uses this hotel as its starting point for a number of tours. Really disappointed that they choose this 2 star establishment. In contrast in Quito, Ecuador they use the 5 star Hilton. This hotel is worn out, dark and cold. Our room has old bedding and blankets, scuffed sheets. No drinking water, no kettle, no tea or coffee or any drinks or snacks in room. No bath mat. Shower really old and faucet set to provide minimum water. Toilet flush button broken. Soap and sachet of shampoo provided. Air con only produced cold air. Old space heater worked and warmed room the second night. Breakfast is cornflakes with some toppings, yogurt, pineapple watermelon and papaya. Scrambled eggs and bread rolls are really poor quality. This morning they said they had no milk available.

"Avoid if you can. G ADVENTURES PLEASE CHANGE"

2.0

Stayed here for the night before and on day 1 of a G Adventures trip. Hotel is shocking. There’s mould on the curtains and blinds, doors don’t really lock, no doors on balcony, bed is uncomfortable. The trip advisor photos are very old or flamboyant of the reality. Hotel looks much more dated than this. Location isn’t brilliant either and we saw much nicer hotels closer to Miraflores. Only positive is the staff were friendly. They moved us twice until we had a room with less mould.
