Staff were lovely

The food was awful, really almost inedible. The hotel is extremely dated. The shower in my room didn't work.

Nothing went well.

One member of staff on duty to run the reception, bar and front of house in the restaurant. Disappointing food. Cold restaurant, cold room. Seemed like hotel is probably closing soon.

The location and parking were fine

I am a frequent traveller to Elgin, working about a week every month at Dr Gray’s Hospital. As my regular guest house was unavailable, I used Booking.com to book 6 nights at the Eight Acres Hotel as it is relatively close to the hospital. My experience has been very poor. Specifically: On my 6th day (today), I asked the receptionist why my room had not been made up after the previous 5 nights. She advised me that getting the room made up was essentially an ‘opt-in’ service ‘due to privacy issues’. I am a well-seasoned traveller and this is new to me. If a guest does not want the room tidied, they would indicate that by putting a do not disturb sign on the door. I was also advised that in any event, housekeeping do not make the bed during a guest’s stay. Beyond that, the hotel is old, run-down, cold and unwelcoming. In my room (22), the cold tap did not work and smells stale with a hint of old cigarette smoke and urine. The hotel is understaffed and speaking to staff led me to conclude that they work long split shifts and are generally miserable. Altogether an unpleasant and disappointing experience.

draft beers weren't working so that was a bit disappointing, had to pay for bottles

breakfast only - late arrival, so no dinner. Breakfast was OK but I could not find the toaster! Nice menu, good choice of items on the board.

Very tired rooms, mattress was pretty bad, smallest TV I've had in a hotel. All draft lagers were off. (no gas!!) Wonder if they are struggling to survive. On the plus side, breakfast and staff were very good.

The best place I have stayed in the uk for comfort and the amazing food on service the two staff members on when I stayed were amazing
