Quaint old hotel with a good location for us, and a wonderful meadow, mill pond etc

Room 10 is a bit small to be a double room

"Pretty rubbish all round"

1.0

The Hotel in general was in desperate need of a refurb. As well as a good clean.Several other guests had made complaints at the desk so I felt its not an isolated incident. The breakfast was very poor. From before we actually arrived they kept asking me to have the breakfast. So glad we only chose the one occasion. A complete waste of money. As my wife is no longer fit and able it was a little difficult to negotiate the stairs to the room. Was aware of that issue. The main problem was the lack of parking. No provision at all for disabled parking. We managed to get one space in the car park.Which was some distance from the hotel. On initial complaint the receptionist said there was a paying car park some further distance from the hotel. All in all a most disappointing experience and would think some form of compensation is required.

The cleanliness.Paticularly in the rooms. Also the windows were all pretty dirty. The one day we had the breakfast there was an infestation of ants and flies.Very off putting

"Lovely location"

7.0

Location was lovely. We were visiting friends so did not eat at the hotel, but the menus looked good. Lovely outdoor spaces for sitting in the sunshine with wonderful views over the meadows.

Would have liked to have been told at booking that the room allocated was not in the actual hotel building but in a building across the road in the car park! As we only wanted somewhere to sleep this was not too much of a problem.

"Stay here but dont eat here"

6.0

This hotel is beautiful and in a gorgeous setting, really stunning. On arrival the receptionist was friendly and welcoming and we were very happy. She took our details and we booked a table for dinner - having been asked if we had any dietary requirements - one of us is vegetarian and the other pescatarian (both pretty normal these days) we were not made aware of any issues with feeding us. Our room with a view was lovely, in the main part of the building, with original beams etc - and a stunning view over pastureland. (Also over the outside bar area which on this particular day was incredibly busy - and loud - due to the gorgeous weather) The noise from the bar was not a problem because it had all died down when we went to bed. We booked our table for dinner for 7.30pm - not late by any means. My husband ordered his much awaited fish and chips and I asked for the vegetarian option from the specials page. This was the ONLY option for me as a vegetarian wanting a main meal - the one other choice was a meal I am unable to eat. We were really surprised that we hadn't been told that there were literally 2 option for vegetarians (who does that these days?!) And then our (very lovely) waitress comes to tell us that they have already run out of my choice. So I suggested that failing any other options being suggested the chef might make me an omelette (the original vegetarian option of the 70s!) and I would settle for that. The waitress went away and came back saying the chef could make me a vegetarian wellington - how very kind and yes please! Our starters arrived with a message from the chef that.the mains were also ready at the same time, would we like them with our starters? Erm no! Surely the chef can time meals to come out properly? The fish and chips arrived - basic but fine. Then my wellington turned up - oh dear! Clearly the chef didnt want to make a simple omelette so had fished around in the bottom of the freezer - i suspect what i got was left over from a Christmas menu. The 'wellington' was actually a filo pie - with substantial freezer burn and no bottom. Im afraid I sent it back and as there were no other vegetarian main course options I had to make do with a portion of chips - this was a belated celebration of my 60th birthday!! Again, the waitress was lovely, but powerless to get me a decent meal. So we left and I went to bed hungry. We hoped that breakfast would make up for the disaster the night before - and obviously I was ready for a proper meal. Sadly this was not the case. Breakfast was chaotic and the staff run ragged - we were not acknowledged once. Again I think the kitchen was responsible for the madness - they would have known pretty much how many guests would be wanting breakfast and should have catered accordingly. There was not enough hot food and it was terribly slow coming out, with guests queuing and waiting around with half plates of food in the hope that the rest of the offerings might appear. And there were not even vegetarian sausage options - in this day and age thats really not acceptable. SO - our experience was that the hotel itself is absolutely fine and we would happily stay again - but would totally avoid eating there and find somewhere else that is prepared to look after the guests in that respect.
