Pool was dirty and cold. Hot tub was not working

We stayed at Staybridge Suites Tampa on February 11 while attending the Florida State Fair and were looking forward to trying the Staybridge brand for the first time. Two days before arrival we called the hotel specifically to confirm that the hot tub was operational, as this is an amenity we value when traveling. We were assured that it was working. After check-in we changed and went directly to use the hot tub before heading to the fair, only to find it completely cold with no signage posted. When we asked the front desk, we were told the heater was not working. Later that evening after returning from the fair, we attempted to adjust the air conditioning but the unit did not function properly and could not be adjusted, leaving the room extremely cold. Given the late hour we managed the situation by opening the windows. The next morning we also discovered that our entry door did not latch securely when closed, meaning the room could not be reliably secured. We reported these concerns to the front desk and also contacted customer service during our stay, but unfortunately no service recovery or meaningful resolution was offered. Because of the combination of the non-operational amenity, unresolved maintenance issues, and the door latch concern, we chose not to continue with our originally planned two-night stay. We hope hotel management and the Staybridge brand review these concerns to ensure the property is meeting expected standards for future guests.

The breakfast was great, except we were ready to eat at the opening time, and it wasn't open for another 30 minutes because the "early kitchen workers" don't come in on Saturday as early as they do during the week. It's still a hotel with people who want to eat breakfast at the advertised time, weekend or not. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was quiet.

The bathroom toilet seat would not stay up, forcing one to sit. The shower was pretty frayed around the edges. The AC would not operate unless the fan was in "ON" and not in "Auto" position. But the MAJOR problem which drives this rating was the extra blanket from the closet. It was full of fleas. Unknowingly, my wife spread it out on the couch so as not to sit directly on it because it looked worn. The next day, she had to deal with the red welts on the back of her legs from where she had sat on the blanket. Our dermatologist identified them as flea bites. Lots of them. Room 205. It's a "pet-friendly" hotel. I didn't notice that in the online description. The hotel gave us a discount in return. I hope they fumigated the room.
