Mountain Lake Lodge

The room I initally booked was a "multi unit", definitely did not get the right room. Also asked for a mountain view as written on the website, didn't get that either. Although I enjoy wooded areas, it was not what I paid for per the site; you couldn't see anything past the trees. Cleanliness wise, there was a chip and empty alcohol bottle underneath my bed so I guess it wasn't cleaned that well. And while I understand a lot of this hotel is historic and they try and minimize changes, some things do need to be fixed and/or replaced. All of the windows were opened when we arrived and being on a mountain, it of course gets very cold at night. We had a hell of a time closing them as multiple were broke or the wood was warped in some way. The highlight of the stay was Evelyn at the Kellerman's gift shop, she had so much extra knoweldge on the Dirty Dancing history tied to the hotel and was extremely friendly!

Beautiful property. I was only there overnight but i am hoping to go back to spend a few days hiking and enjoying the resort.

Stayed here in past, place in need of renovations, but knew what we were getting into. Conveniently located near Virginia Tech, this worked good for Metallica concert and prices were not as bad as the hotels in Blacksburg.

Wanted to surprise my wife with a trip to the place, where many of the scenes from Dirty Dancing were filmed, as it is one of her favorite movies. She loved the whole experience. Would highly recommend for any Dirty Dancing fan. Also, the resort is like stepping back in time, well maintained with a helpful and friendly staff. Two thumbs up!

We thought we'd go for a "magical Christmas" experience.........nightmare experience is what it turned out to be. Be prepared to walk long distance to parking, no welcome at check in no map for their Christmas village.....So then we go up to the room open the door smell of mold directly in your face the linen was dirty bathroom had mold, air filter hadn't been changed in who knows when. After a 7 hour drive we were hungry thought we'd try the resturaunt on site only to be told we would need reservations NOT mentioned at time of booking, ended up at their local Walmart for food. Then decide try and make the best of this so we went to explore their Christmas village, I ordered some hot apple cider which I can assure you was warmish apple juice at best. We go back to the awful room to discover the heat doesn't work properly, took all night to warm up in there. Survived the night next day decided to take the train ride they advertised as part of this "magical" experience to find out its broke for the remainder of the season. We decided OK well let's check out the carriage rides they offer only to find out they would want another $75 for a 6 minute ride we opted not to get ripped off any further. At this point I'm not spending another night in this place, now they inform absolutely no refund even partial of any kind. Before leaving decided to get some hot chocolate to maybe use some of the money left on the account I don't know why I even bothered........ After discovering other reviews one in particular talked about a stain on the bedspread we found one, just horrible to rip people off this way. They could and should do better for what they charge you I realize not all experiences are the same this was just ours. Good luck to anyone booking here!

No hot water for a bath

Brilliant Dirty Dancing weekend. Lots of fun. The hotel is basic but that’s part of its charm. Staff were brilliant and couldn’t be more helpful. Areas of improvement would be to keep buffet open for longer to reduce the impact on the staff at peak times.

Pro: It is very secluded and quiet, the staff are nice, it is extremely peaceful up in the mountains. Con: The main appeal seems to be nostalgia for fans of the film "Dirty Dancing". There is no air conditioning in the lodge, and there is really only one place to eat. The hotel room had no fridge, and everything was extremely dated. The room was tiny, just barely enough room to fit the bed, desk, and dresser. The lake is all but dried up as well, greatly reducing the views on order. I am not generally negative in reviews, but anyone wanting to stay here needs to know what to expect.

At the top of the moutain is an unlikely motel. Surrounded by beatiful scenery and many great hikes it is truly unique Over thhe last few years improvements are slowly bringing it back to it's glory days. Highly recommended if you like nature and peace and quiet.
