The Castle at Skylands Manor

We’ve always wanted to stay in a castle and here was one right in NJ. The moldings and other architectural pieces were amazing.

The grounds were fabulous and the public interior spaces were an architectural treat. However, overnighting there could only be described as camping -- with no hot water, a partially formed chrysalis and dead caterpillar in the bed sheets, live and dead bugs in abundance -- in what was described as one of their premier rooms with private bath!

The grounds are pretty, but likely not up to usual standards because of the recent Hurricaine and Covid. The castle is on the property of the NJ Botanical Garden and the roads were littered with potholes and parking is a walk with no lighting. There is a communal bathroom with 2 stalls with showers and toilet which worked out ok except for when a man locked the men's room for 45 min for his private use. Continental breakfast was presented nicely, but should have been limited to packaged cereal and baked goods the rest was not good.

The property was beautiful and the innkeeper was incredibly charismatic a kind. It's September so it's still very warm outside and there are tiny air conditioning units attached to the windows. It was fun to explore the different rooms of the house. I did not know the bathroom would be shared similar to a college dorm though so keep that in mind when booking. Other than that my only other surprise was the windows don't have solid curtains to block the morning sun. They are that way to keep the aesthetic of the place. Overall I would still go again!

Old and out of date. Went with fiancé and her parents , whom had to share a bathroom with the guy who ran the estate. Just very off. Smelled terrible and wasn’t clean. Went for a tour date for a wedding and we left the night we checked in. Pictures are very misleading. Good luck

Our stay at the Skylands Manor was great!!! The Castle is incredible, and you get to roam around and appreciate each room on your own time. The gardens are accessible and free for you to explore. The innkeeper, Richard, is super pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this retreat for anyone who wants to feel like royalty living in a castle!

We had an incredible time. The castle and the grounds surrounding it were amazing.

The castle was amazing. The grounds were beautiful. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I wish the staff knew more about the castle rather than handing us a printout about it. I know there was tours available by volunteers but we couldn’t stay for it. The breakfast left something to be desired; especially the coffee. I informed the staff we were there for our anniversary and it wasn’t even acknowledged; despite us staying in one of their higher end rooms. Still it was definitely a nice experience.
