"Cat population"

8.0

The Marriott Frenchman's Cove is a beautiful resort. The grounds were well kept and the accommodations were very good. The staff were friendly. My only concern was for the semi feral cats residing on this property. In the evenings 1-3 cats showed up in the outdoor dining and pool area begging for food. None of the more tame cats were spayed or neutered and I quickly discovered several four to six month old kittens on the grounds as well. I counted close to one dozen cats on the property during our stay. I was not disturbed by the cats themselves but I am very disturbed by a large corporation such as Marriott choosing to ignore this problem rather than taking a humanitarian and proactive approach to it. This problem could easily be addressed by trapping, neutering and releasing (TNR)the cats where they live. Exterminating community cats only results in more cats moving in and taking their place. The TNR program keeps the existing cats healthier and prevents the population from multiplying. Another benefit is that spayed females will not allow other cats to move in to the colony. There is a Humane Society on the island and I'm sure they could helpful with the process. I hope the Marriott will address this problem humanely.

Great for a relaxing break. Nice pool, small private beach with safe swimming. Dining options limited - recommend use of car or taxi essential to explore the island further

"UVI trip"

8.0

We recently stayed at Marriott Frenchman’s Cove in St. Thomas and overall, it was a really good experience—especially for our group. We had been debating between renting a house or staying in a condo, and we were thrilled to finally get into Frenchman’s Cove after trying for a few years (it’s usually booked solid!). We traveled with four teenagers and stayed in a two-bedroom condo in the Tortola building, which was perfect—spacious, clean, and super close to the pool, beach, and marketplace. The entire resort was well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. That said, the vibe is definitely more on the chill side. We would’ve loved to see more included activities or something to give it a more “fun” atmosphere, especially with teens. Still, it’s a great spot to unwind. A few helpful tips: • Bring snacks or groceries. Food on the island is pricey, and it helps to stock your condo with basics. • The restaurants at the sister resorts are much better than what’s onsite, so if you’re looking for a nicer meal or more variety, it’s worth making the short drive or arranging a reservation. • Definitely rent a car. Taxis are expensive and add up quickly. Having your own transportation gives you the freedom to explore St. Thomas, St. John, and even hop over to the BVIs with ease. Go check out night kayaks at the Westin, spend the day at Water Island, and don’t miss going over to Jost on Lady Lynsey. Overall, we’d absolutely return. Now that we know what to expect and how to plan, it’s a comfortable and convenient launching point for an incredible island experience.

We loved our two-room partial ocean-view villa. Clean, quiet and not too far from the pool. We enjoyed the food at the restaurant by the pool, Jermaine at the bar was a pleasure to chat with and he even got to know our favorite drinks. We enjoyed the property overall, but I wished I knew it was a timeshare property. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I received at least 10 calls & texts (before and during our stay) to sign up for a "free gift" in exchange for going to a presentation. Apparently no doesn't mean no because no matter how many times I declined, I still received more texts/calls. Even after calling the front desk. I wouldn't book there again for this reason.

"Home away from home in March"

8.0

We have been owners at the Cove since 2008 & always look forward to our 2 week stay in March. The villas are spacious & well appointed. The beach is nice for snorkeling & soaking up the sun. Great addition of the beach bar service & tables on the dock. With the Westin now open access to their amenities is a plus. Love the spa! The ferry shuttle to town is a great convenience as town traffic can be heavy. Navigating around the cruise boats is easy; those heavy days I hang out on the beach. Always love seeing many of the same staff each year. Marvin makes my beach days a delight… I love him! He makes sure the beach looks great each morning!

"Avoid during crowded months. Weather was great but way too crowded."

6.0

Good luck finding a chair by the beach or pool. We were there for a week and everyday groups of people and families would “reserve” their chairs early in the morning for the entire day. Also, customer service at all parts of the resort was just ok. Definitely was not inviting and often seemed forced and just going through the motions. In some cases rude. We have experienced better service at other Marriott resorts. Finally, no fault of resort but the cruise ship traffic really ruins the island. On some days the population of the island doubles due to cruise ship passengers really impacting the entire island. We definitely picked days with the fewest boat people to explore the island.

"Not what Marriott used to be"

6.0

We arrived at 11 am (knowing the room would not be ready) and were checked in quickly. Soon, we were assigned a 2-bedroom unit in the St. John building, looking out to the roof of the lower building, with no ocean view. We brought up the issue within minutes after we entered the assigned unit. MVC offered to change rooms during our stay if rooms with a view were available and we pay an additional $120 cleaning fee. They said once you set foot in a room and then change rooms, the room needs to be cleaned. This means one would have to first pay MVC a $120 cleaning fee before complaining about an MVC-assigned unit, which may necessitate a change of rooms. However, how can anyone know if there are issues with a room without setting foot in a room? We also inquired about the assignment of rooms again during our stay. We were informed it was because we had not made a specific request in the “comment” section, wherever that is, for an ocean view when making the reservation. We have been MVC owners since 1994, and it has been our experience that MVC would give the best room available at check-in. Now, it seems that MVC has changed. When you book “Ocean Front” and do not ask for a high floor or room with a view, you get a lower floor room with no view by default. This change is particularly disappointing for any beach MVC property - who would ever prefer a no-view unit at a beach property? It would be interesting to see the rationale for this business practice. Sadly, we will not assume good service or goodwill anymore. That said, the rooms here were spacious, clean, and well-maintained. We did not see roaches as complained in other reviews. The 3-elevator trip to the pool was less of an issue for us. We ate three times at the eatery by the pool, and the food was decent. While the service was slow, the servers were friendly. We did not use the balconies (though oceanfront) since they offered no ocean views.
