Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

My mom and I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The staff surprised us with a chilled bottle of wine and wished my mom a happy birthday, also did a free upgrade for us. We were also surprised to receive a daily $20 food/drinks that we could spend at the hotel's bar and restaurant. That was a pleasant bonus to start our mornings with a great cappuccino and a delicious breakfast. Staff were very pleasant, always smiling and cheerful.

The only down side is the homeless hanging out in the neighborhood, but other than than the location was central.

I really liked how the hotel was close to restaurants. Lena at the desk gave some awesome food recommendations. Cowboy Star Steakhouse was amazing!!! Thank you Lena

When we arrived, we were first given a different room than the one we had booked — without a bathtub. We called the front desk right away, and they confirmed that a mistake had been made. It was corrected, but it took about half an hour, and it was already 10 p.m. with an 11-month-old baby, which wasn’t ideal. The next morning, we realized how dirty the room actually was. The terrace outside was full of cigarette butts, and inside the room was quite dusty. After we mentioned this to the front desk, the room was cleaned immediately, which we appreciated. The location is very central, but there are quite a few homeless people in the surrounding area. You don’t really get bothered by it, but it doesn’t always feel very comfortable. Overall, the staff was friendly and the location is convenient, but cleanliness and the first impression could definitely be improved.

The property was nice great place to stay, especially if you’re trying to do things in the downtown area and great walking distance too. Overall the room was comfy. The beds were great. The bathroom was clean

For the room that we stayed in I wish the price was a bit lesser than we paid for. We stayed in a room 401 with no window view just mostly air conditioning and vents. For the price that we paid I wish we would’ve had a nice view or a balcony

My family and I stayed at the Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel from 25-29 November 2025. We were greeted by a very efficient valet team and outreaching, friendly, customer focused front desk personnel. Due to an unfortunate miscommunication there was difference in our room requirement and room assigned. In my view more specific description when referring to a presidential suite vs regular room by both parties in the planning process and an improvement in the communications interface between the hotel and a separate reservation department would have been significant in avoiding this and similar disconnects. We were able to quickly resolve the issue because both parties (the hotel personnel and myself) listened carefully to the other while we presented our respective understanding of how this disconnect occurred. The hotel personnel took the initiative with a proposeda solution that far exceeded our expectations in resolving the situation to our complete satisfaction! The presidential suite met all of our expectations, service was excellent, the restaurant dining experience was delicious Thank you to Tre and Lena for a very pleasant hotel stay!

Five Stars all the way. Very clean ,very helpful stuff. The location is in the heart of downtown San Diego. Close to bars restaurants. We enjoy it a lot and planing to go again.
