The Gables Hotel

Very nice looking hotel, we had two rooms, one had been updated and the bathroom was modern with a large shower, the other room’s bathroom still had a bath and was a little dated. Breakfast was very nice, good choice of food and drinks and very tasty. Plenty of parking and within walking distance of the outlet village (about a mile away). All staff we met were friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return here.

We had a lovely overnight stay with a seven and a one year old. The hotel is extremely clean and comfortable, although the room looked a little bit tired. This in no way affected our stay though. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was AMAZING!!! There are shops within easy walking distance as well.

This is the second time I have stayed and on both occasions I had to speak to staff about noise. First time I was moved room due to noise from kitchen fans. The staff didn’t actually know what the noise was but sounded like a motorbike in the room. The second time I didn’t think it could happen again. This time my room window was next to the kitchen outlet fan that was pointing at the window. I had to ask for it to be switched off 3 times. It eventually went off after 10.30pm. The rooms are also dirty and smell damp. I won’t be back which is a shame because I would have stayed weekly for work. I have recorded the noise and tried to speak to staff but management are not interested.

Sadly the room was rather tired and let down massively by the amount of mould in the bathroom. We only stayed overnight but this wasn’t a budget hotel and I would have hoped for better.

Our room had not been cleaned properly. Lots of long black hair on the bathroom floor and toilet seat. Cobwebs with resident spiders in the bathroom (3) and bedroom (3). Mould in the shower. Our cooked breakfasts were disappointing. My poached eggs were like hard boiled eggs and my husband’s scrambled eggs were rubbery. Hotel decor is tired.

I thought as hotel mentioned being accessible and having accessible rooms this hotel would be suitable for me as a wheelchair user. I didnt find this at all. They did provide a ramp to navigate the steps but there is still a large lip to get over once at the top. The lenghty corridor with tight turns and numerous doors was horredous for my larger electric wheelchair to get through. I had to enter the room at a very tight angle to get in as the door did not open fully. They had upgraded us to a family room to 'give us more room' but due to postioning of bunk beds in room I couldnt get my wheelchair any further and had to store it just at the door.It seems that their definition of a wheelchair accessible bathroom was to have a walk in shower. We were told that none of there rooms have fully adapted bathrooms , only a few with walk in showers. So no shower seat , no raised toilet and no grab rails. This made my stay very uncomfortable, Im glad we had only booked one night. Im obviously writing this from an access point of view . I did find the hotel charming ,room was clean and bathroom immaculate. Did not use restaurant or bar as could not face trying to get out of room until it was time to leave.

Well appointed location set back from the road near the outside of the village. Quiet. plenty of patking , really friendly helpful staff. Bar and restuarant serving a good selection of we priced food. Plenty of selections for breakfast. Always my 1st choice when visiting the area .

Rooms are very dated and could do with a thorough clean. Light fittings and other surfaces don’t need to be coated in dust and cobwebs. Windows can also be cleaned. Questionable stains on the carpets. Flickering bathroom lights. Mildly uncomfortable bed with a mattress that’s too small for the divan base. Could be much better, sorry.
