"Gem of a place in a fabulous location"

10.0

The location was great to access the town with nice shops & eateries, the Cathedral and the National Trust Workhouse and infirmary was only a 20-minute easy walk from the hotel. Parking at the hotel was a bonus, and it was free! The hotel was a most beautiful historic building with lovely rooms full of character. Hotel Courtyard garden was full of wonderful pots of pretty plants & and seating, which was a lovely place to sit with a drink & relax. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was clean and airy and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was hot and delicious ,served in beautiful surroundings. It's such an amazing place to stay, and we will definitely return.

Nothing, it was all good.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, will use again."

Very comfortable, clean and good staff

Lots of stairs to climb, but that’s obviously because it’s an old building with character

"Overpriced Fawlty Towers of Southwell"

4.0

Location and breakfast.

Where do we start....broken toilet cistern that didn't flush, wall tiles on floor of room (and hallways) that cover bald patches on the carpet where the radiator has leaked, heated towel rail thats permanently on hot and couldn't be turned off, a combination plug from circa 1960/70 that couldn't be used, only 1 plug in the whole room that is usable, only 1 window that could be opened 1/3 of the way, disgusting windows that have never been cleaned. Oh...and 300 grandfather clocks that all go off on the hour at 10 second intervals while you're trying to relax at breakfast.

"A pleasant experience"

7.0

This hotel has friendly and characterful staff. The building is also characterful! It was a pleasant enough stay. It feels like you have time travelled somewhat - in a good way.

The Saracens Head might be slightly overpriced for what you get and the hotel seems a little past its best and in need of a little maintenance. There were a few details that made the experience of staying there a little less than fantastic. The WiFi wasn't great. The traffic noise and late night rowdiness from the pub opposite was quite loud. The shower ran in a cycle from hot to cold every 10 seconds. One bedside light didn't work. The fan in the bathroom was ineffective. It has a slightly shabby, used feel. The bin bag in the bin was too small for the bin and ripped easily.
