The Saracens Head Hotel

Location is central to Southwell pubs/restaurants. The breakfast was nice, particularly the croissants and the scrambled egg from the cooked breakfast which was very tasty.

Room was very warm and stayed this way the duration of our stay despite the window being open continuously since before check-in, no aircon or similar to help with cooling it down. Room was on the front of the building so a lot of noise from road outside from early morning, louder due to needing to have window open due to temperature. Also frequent loud plumbing noises through the night.

Very friendly helpful staff, a very good breakfast, and easy parking. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring Southwell and the area.

My room just needed someone to put a few things right which wouldn’t cost much. The curtains were hanging badly with several curtain rings loose or missing. There was no stopper in the washbasin so that should you drop something down the plug hole it would be gone forever. The nice old brass bath fittings had been partly replaced by a chrome hose to the shower, which just looked cheap. There are not enough sockets, so I had to unplug the kettle in order to use my hair dryer. Just quibbles, but I was sad to see what was a very nice room looking slightly uncared for. Nevertheless I had a very good stay, and would not hesitate to come back again.

We had a great stay. Clean and spacious rooms with a kettle and tea.

Location, atmosphere, staff breakfast was all excellent.

Shower was hard to control temperature. Woken by traffic. No fridge in room. Lack of electric sockets in useful locations. Lack of drawers in room. Poor lighting in bathroom (over mirror).

Clean and adequately resourced.

Tired.

This was one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Not the most plush, but with exceptional and friendly staff, great food, comfortable rooms and easy parking in an authentic historic building. The collection of clocks in the public rooms is worth visiting for too, and it was great value for the 4 of us Southwell is an interesting town to visit, with its Minster (now a cathedral), archbishop's palace ruin, National Trust-owned workhouse and many historic buildings of note.

Breakfast was very good

The weather was very warm during our stay and our room was situated on the top floor. It was uncomfortable for sleeping in these conditions and so we would have expected there to have been a fan provided in the room.
