Hotel City Villach

fantastic position for rail travellers, and those who wanted to explore the town. the breakfast was superb!

Arrived at the hotel and the staff were rude saying I had made two bookings when I hadn’t. Tried to charge me an extra night and then didn’t achknowledge us each time we walked past. Hotel in general was nice and breakfast was good! Villach itself is dull with nothing to do. I wish I had carried onto Ljubljana rather than stop here.

I stayed in Hotel City for a week in early February. Different people look for different things in a hotel. My three measures would be comfort (not luxury), friendly staff and (in town) location. Hotel City measured up very well, actually beyond my expectations when I first booked. I had a single room which was perfectly good and which, in a compact space, provided not only the basics but also a sofa (which was great to watch the high definition TV). The room faced into the busy square around the railway station. My first thought was that it might be noisy. No. My stay was remarkably quiet, night and morning. I was very impressed by the extensive breakfast, included in the room price. There was an excellent choice and the atmosphere was relaxed. First class. The staff was also first class. The front desk was welcoming and helpful. The breakfast staff equally so. The cleaning staff too. It may have been because I was staying longer than most but I began to feel like I was one of the hotel 'family'. Not a perfect analogy but I did develop a sense of the hotel as 'home'. Location is great. I had had a very long and complicated journey and it was a relief to exit the railway station, look across the road and think 'finally, I've made it'. Most of what Villach has to offer is within a short walk. Bus and rail for exploring further is right beside you. In short, Hotel City ticked all the boxes.

Everything was great except for the internet. The internet kept disconnecting and each time you had to re-enter a user name and password. Very annoying.

Very clean and convenient! We love everything about it.

I knew I had reserved twin beds, but didn't realize how small the room would be. Reminded my of my dorm room in college. Also, they didn't have air conditioning, which is not unusual in Austria. The problem is the hotel is right next to very busy bus stop. So, when we opened the window, the noise made it hard to sleep. On the plus side, the breakfast was very good.

Great stay. Checked in early which was much appreciated.

They even packed us a lunch for our long train ride because we lady before breakfast began. Superb service.

Very pleasant stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast options and a chance to relax in the sauna. Perfectly situated on the edge of the historic town centre.
