"Overnight Stay"

8.0

The hotel seems rather tired these days - decor and furnishings. Our first room was cramped. We upgraded to a much better room however it had no working heating - portable electric heater provided, the sink was blocked and the lights inside the wardrobe would not switch off on closure. Breakfast was very good and staff attentive, friendly and helpful. Parking overnight in the centre of Brighton is hugely expensive (£40 +)

The property was quirky, and the bathroom was lovely. The staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful, we complained about the stifling heat in the stuffy room, and were told only heating is available in the winter, we had to end up opening and closing the window throughout the night as it was like a sauna. The room itself did not feel deluxe, the view was of some rusty aircon units, pigeon spikes on the Juliet balcony outside, and the smell of smoke from the guests below who were outside on their terraces didn't help with the ventilation problems mentioned above. Housekeeping didn't make up our room, they only refilled the coffee pods, and after leaving and checking the bill, we realised we'd been charged for 2 breakfasts that we didn't have. We have since requested a refund. This was a disappointing stay, and below standards we've received at other Hotel du Vin properties.

"In need of repair"

8.0

We stayed at the Sea View room - the staff were lovely and service was good. However, the room itself really needs a face lift - the paint is flaking off all over the windows and some part of the ceiling, the carpet is old and fraying at the junction where it meets the wood floor and the towel rain in the bathroom is loose. Don’t get me wring, the room itself was clean, but it felt a bit unloved. Considering this was one of the more expensive rooms with twin tubs, I would have expected it to be in a better condition than it was.

"A pleasant stay"

10.0

Lovely friendly and kind staff throughout our stay. We chose a basic room which is what we had. It was a little tired but everything one needed was there. Our main complaint couldn’t be helped by the Hotel as it related to the noise outside of late night party revellers. We had a downstairs room right at the front of the Hotel. We stayed one night; if longer we would have considered asking to move.Food excellent.

The dining room was lovely. The restaurant is definitely the highlight of this hotel. The layout of the hotel is very unique. The room had a lovely bathtub, very spacious. The room did not have many working outlets, so charging devices was a little awkward. The hotel is right next to the beach, so that was very convenient.
