We loved the location, right on the beach and close to shops, restaurants and very helpful staff. The adult pool was our favorite.

"COMPACT RESORT FOR A MAGNFICENT, RELAXING VACATION"

8.0

My wife and I had a lovely and thoroughly refreshing week at the Grand Decameron in early March. This was our second visit, after staying here 3 years ago. This is a great little resort if you want to relax, never have to worry about finding a beach chair, and enjoy long walks along a quiet, scenic beach. It is small and compact, very well maintained and managed, with 3 pools: 2 at ground level and a fabulous adult pool on a second level which feels private and provides a great view of the beach. The adult pool is a favourite hangout spot, especially with its swim-up bar and the great music thanks to the bartender Raphael. There is a swim-up bar on the main level as well. Everything at this resort feels relaxed, very comfortable, and very convenient. It is kept very clean, and we saw workers repainting rooms and hallways. There is one a la carte, which is outdoors with a romantic view, and which doubles as a snack bar during the day. The main buffet is excellent! Three years ago when we were here, the selection was nothing like what it is now. The staff has really put a lot of work into making the buffet first-rate. Each night is a theme night at this buffet: while we were here there was an Asian night, a BBQ night, a seafood night, a Mexican night, a Mediterranean night, and more. Because of this, and because the buffet is very well stocked with choices (and the food is always hot), we didn’t miss having more a la carte restaurants. The buffet felt like an a la carte each night. My wife and I truly do not understand people who complain about the lack of food choices here! The staff works very hard and the servers are very friendly, so please remember to tip. The selection of drinks was good, too, and they didn’t seem watered down the way they do in some other resorts. There was a good variety and they were always well-prepared. People generally remembered to tip. The poolside activities were sufficient, without ever becoming too loud for people who wanted to read or have quiet conversations. For my wife and me, this was a good balance, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the “stretching” class provided each morning with skilled instructors who really knew what they were doing. Personally, I was disappointed that there was almost no beach volleyball (it is only offered twice per week). There was very little aqua volleyball, either. For me the lack of volleyball is a significant limitation of this resort, but I understand it’s difficult for a hotel of such small size with a small number of guests. I knew about the lack of volleyball from our stay 3 years ago, but we chose this resort anyway because it is just so relaxing and we never have to look around for beach chairs. If you’re looking for Michael Jackson and magic shows, this small resort may not be for you. The evening entertainment includes mainly musical performances, sometimes karaoke, and there are occasionally other performances as well. The beach itself is magnificent, one of the best beaches of all the holidays we have taken! We saw several whales during the week, either from the beach or from the lookout deck at the adult pool. Special thanks to Paola and Erica who worked so tirelessly and enthusiastically in the activities centre! Special thanks also to Oscar, Fatima, Beatrice, Martin, and all the others in the hardworking and well-organized buffet staff! And special thanks to Martin and Martin who work at Gray Line: we didn’t see any Nexus staff, but the Gray Line staff took care of us in arranging our pick-up at the end of the week. Bottom line: This resort is small so it can’t provide everything, but what it does provide it does with class, quality, and caring. We can’t wait to return for a 3rd heavenly visit! Thank you to all the staff and the whole Grand Decameron team! We truly appreciate your hard work.

"Budget choice but some highlights"

6.0

This resort was considerably less expensive than others and we had read the reviews extensively, so we knew what to expect. There were always plenty of loungers, the pools were clean and rarely crowded. The beach was gorgeous and a pleasure to walk along - it’s too dangerous to swim in this area. We were able to alternate between shaded loungers at the beach and the pool. The very few beach vendors were very polite and not aggressive at all. It’s located relatively close to San Jose Del Cabo historic district so we Ubered there and walked back. (Try the tacos at La Lupita.) we also took an Uber to and from Cabo San Lucas for a day, which was about $50 each way. The resort is quite old and in definite need of repair, however it was very clean, and the maintenance crew was constantly repairing things. The majority of the staff were friendly and polite. As many reviews have mentioned, the food is not very good. Best bests include fresh fruit and custom omelettes at breakfast, the burger at La Luna restaurant and the custom pasta station at dinner. There are no specialty coffees, however there is a Starbucks about an eight minute walk away. Restaurant prices are pretty similar to North American restaurant prices. We went out to restaurants near the hotel several times, so that offsets the lower resort price. All in all, the resort reflects the budget price, but we enjoyed our week!
