Catalonia Punta del Rey

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. First time to Tenerife so wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s not a massively touristy area which is what we liked. There is plenty to do around the hotel if you want to get involved. The animation team were always on the go without being pushy and in your face. Lots of groups enjoying themselves throughout the day. We just wanted a quiet one but enjoyed watching. My happy place was out the back watching the turtles in the lovely waterfall pond, very tranquil and a fabulous sun trap late afternoon. The food was amazing, every day. Something for everyone I’d say. Drinks are self service. Beer, wine (all colours) and soft drinks. Some live cooking and the rest a buffet. We went pre booked premium, which does include a few bits like solarium (2 jacuzzis) across the road which are much more tranquil than the main pool, no food at the solarium though and only beer and soft drinks and no ice bucket to help yourself to, adult pool has mixed spirit pumps (vodka lime lemonade, gin & tonic) and boxed sandwiches (very dry) so we only used solarium once as we got peckish. We had lunch in the main restaurant twice which is fabulous if you can prize yourself from your sunbed. Also the closing times are rather early at 5pm the adult pool and a bit later at the solarium, plenty of sun left to be had but I guess they have to stagger the cleaning arrangements. We just went back to the turtle watch then. Beautiful. Staff were all lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. Check in very simple. The lift was annoying during our stay and as on 9th floor that’s a lot of steps, it broke down on a daily basis. Luckily we’re fit but felt for anyone who couldn’t deal with stairs. We enjoyed the disco one evening, drinks on all inclusive stop at 10pm in there and we got charged for a beer after this, the main bar at 11pm. It was a one off thankfully. The good thing is that things get wrapped up early and you do get a good nights sleep as it’s not a party on type of hotel thankful for us. The room was lovely, ginormous bed, shower was powerful and hot,and kettle etc., top ups you need to get from restaurant (tea,sugar, coffee sachets) premium only though. There are a few shops in the hotel, gifts, tobacco, a vape vending machine and a pool table. Plenty of access to the reps at their desk for trips and advice. Around the area we walked into the next town every day, Candelaria, nice level prom style walk, lots of shops and a beautiful church at the end of the town. If you love walking as we do it’s a fabulous choice of hotel. Buses are cheap and very frequent, we went to Santa Cruz one day, very nice place. We have booked again for November. Looking forward to going back.
