What a find! The staff were very friendly, helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Hotel was spotless, comfortable welcoming set in beautiful gardens. The food was outstanding. Great place I just keep coming back to year after year!! - why change when what you've found fits the bill ?
The property was "tired" - decor and furniture dated, mildew on the windows, desperately in need of re-painting, mosquitoes in the room when we arrived. None of the normal amenities - no luggage rack, hairdryer, fridge, safe. Understaffed - the owner was exhausted, trying to do everything herself. The dinner was over-priced for the quality offered.

We stayed in the coach house just off the hotel. Very comfortable room. Enjoyed a full breakfast the next morning. Excellent stay.
The Trehellas is nicely situated with friendly staff, an excellent restaurant attached, extensive parking, nice grounds and a pool for a COVID-free future. The room is OK but personally, I could have done with a better bathroom - the standard stand-in bath shower is a little too down-market for me - although I'll concede some may be more comfortable with the rustic Cornish charm than I am. I think my review may suffer from the fact I stayed at a peak period (a situation not of my making) and paid twice the normal rate. I understand the business practice (I run a business myself) of increasing rates at peak periods particularly after the blight of 20/21 but the fact is my feelings about a £150 a night stay will be different from a £75-£80 one. However, the main selling point of the Trehallas is the superb restaurant (and breakfast). I like to visit highly-rated restaurants and was looking to try some of the Michelin starred chefs in Cornwall but was unable to book in time but the food in the Trehallas more than compensated with the added pleasure of being able to have a decent wine without worrying about driving. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to stay if I'm in the area again.

Where do I start? Initially calling the hotel after making a booking was a nightmare with a rude lady on the phone who cut the call. I then called back to receive a welcoming 'What?' The room was freezing. The heater in the room, was off and the receptionist once more answered my call, then put the phone down, once I raised my concerns. Once more i called back to her annoyance and she said 'someone is coming now...' yet again putting the phone down. Do not expect good customer service here. The bed was on its last legs and i ended up sleeping in a dip. If you have a bad back, do consider this. The television is from the 80s, which doesn't work. And there are a list of hidden charges, such as; bringing food in to the premises. The kitchen shuts at 8pm, so if you're arriving late, you're going to be hungry or be hit with a £25 levy pp. Just do yourself a favour, go to another hotel and do not make the same mistake i did.. Be sure to enjoy the sound of the busy road through the paper thin walls, I thoroughly enjoyed this myself. Other than that Bodmin is ... OK?
