"Old School Victorian Gem"

Old school classic Victorian hotel perched on the cliff. Was a little hesitant booking a Britannia hotel - some of there's are shocking, but the restoration and care afforded to this gem are commendable. Very clean, great staff, good breakfast - and dog friendly. Great value too. Parking needs to be reserved in ther small car park. At busy times the nearest car park is about a 15 minute walk away (Northstead) and about £12 a day. Better bet if you can find a space is free onstreet parking just above the car park on Weydale Avenue. Cheaper rooms are 'compact' but comfy and have everything you need - it was 25 degrees and there is a fan in the room, nice touch. If you like all meals included, they had a deal at the time for £25.50 pp. So enquire before booking. Paid £77 for b & b plus £10 for our dog

Slight downside, if you have a dog you cannot eat in the restaurant so they set up a table for you in the foyer. Perhaps they could have a dog friendly area in the restaurant?

Spotlessly clean, the single room on the 4th floor had a really good layout for a small room. TV at end of bed, nice bathroom toilet area. Comfy bed, nice cotton bedding. Both a heater and a fan in the wardrobe which was good to see

I do think a room on the top floor would benefit from a ceiling fan in summer and heavier block out curtsins to keep it cool during the day, although the desk fan did a fine job and despite the very warm conditions I slept really well. A set time for kitchen closing which was advised at check in would be nice. No hot chips at 8pm :(
