Ilsington Country House Hotel & Spa

Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely location. Unfortunately we got woken up by the guests in the rooms next to us when they came back around 11pm slamming doors and being noisy. We could even hear them snoring through the walls and could not get back to sleep and so we left early.

Old and tired furnishings at times which were musty and did cause an allergic reaction.

Location, easy parking, storage within room

Felt more dog tolerant, heavy focus on spa side not hotel. Limited vegetarian options at breakfast. Areas of room needed cleaning, dirty light switches, stains on wall. Storage within bathroom is above toilet - not the best location

Beautiful surrounding scenery, the conservatory, the spa, the gardens and pond sitting areas superb. The meals were locally sourced and very good. The restaurant ambiance was exceptional with the amazing views. A bit of a wait for meal in the Blue Tiger but staff were inundated, worth waiting for as all fresh. Lovely clean room and bedding etc. All the staff polite and helpful. Dog friendly he never wanted to leave.

Nothing really just a bit of a musty smell from the wardrobe which I told the house maids.

A really lovely holiday base. We walked a lot on the moors - and in the magical nearby 'temperate rainforest' woods (near Bovey Tracey) - great for shelter in wet or hot weather! Talking of wet weather, the pool was great. A lovely relaxed vibe in the hotel with very friendly staff. Quite superb food - much better than we can cook, and we had a week off from cooking which was great! I'd let the hotel know of diet restrictions in advance if poss - they did a special menu for our son who has some allergies which was really helpful as well as reassuring. The (very good) breakfast can take a while so allow enough time if you have a deadline. (Mind you, the buffet was good if you don't want to wait for a cooked option.)

It was wonderful! The pool and spa area is lovely - of a very high standard. My room was super comfy - lovely bed, different pillows (which as someone with a bad neck I always appreciate as you can find one that suits). The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was very nice. I also had dinner in the restaurant and it was great too. I was a solo traveller and was made to feel very welcome and not awkward (as can happen in some places when you travel alone).

It is rather expensive. But on balance, worth it. The dining room has lovely views but does look a bit dated.

We loved our stay here. Everyone was so friendly and the hotel is very welcoming and cosy, with a home-from-home feel. The food at the restaurant is very high-quality, with beautiful local ingredients and a fantastic view of Hay Tor. They dealt brilliantly with allergies/intolerances, which was much appreciated. Thoroughly recommend going here!
