Allegro Madeira - Adults Only - Member of Barceló Hotel Group

An excellent Adult Only Hotel. Our Junior Suite on the 9th floor had 2 balconies with wonderful views over the sea. It was a spacious room with plenty of seating, a dressing area with seating and coffee/tea making facilities and fridge. Large comfortable bed, plenty of space with extra seating, plus free use of the safe. Although there was no wardrobe, there was plenty of hanging space with lots of hangers and drawers. Small gripe - the push to open/close drawers were a bit of a nuisance and unnecessary. The walk-in shower was good and I’m sure, much appreciated by older clientele. However, the shower controls were a bit awkward. Breakfast was very good. We liked the ‘Hawk’ deterrent used to keep the pigeons away from the outdoor eating area. The pool was not huge but big enough to have a proper swim in and we always found available sunbeds. The rooftop bar had lovely views but needed more seating, especially when there was entertainment on. A stack of chairs in one corner would have helped. We saw people go away because there was no-where to sit. Also, the barman was often on his own, working so hard to prepare drinks and take to table with a queue of people waiting to pay their bills. The hotel is a good base for exploring Funchal but there is quite a slope down to the promenade area (more of a problem when walking back up) which would be difficult for people with mobility problems. There is a bus stop close by and frequent buses into Funchal. E1.69 gets you anywhere on the yellow urban bus route, even up to Monte. Be warned though, the buses get crowded and if you are standing, hang on tight as the bus will not go slow or wait for people to sit down!

Lovely hotel - great staff, comfortable beds, quiet, clean. Great rooftop views. Clean pool, lounge area and gym. Wellness area. Great breakfast overall. Will return!

This was my first trip to Madeira and I selected the Allegro Madeira Hotel based on past positive experiences of other Barceló Hotels and the fact it is an adult only hotel. Check in was efficient and friendly and despite an early arrival my room was available. The room was of a modern style with the most comfortable spacious bed. The bathroom has a walk in shower with good water pressure and the toiletries that you would expect in a 4 star hotel. My balcony was on the same side of the hotel as the entrance had both sea and mountain views. The breakfast was a good hot and cold selection with omelettes made to your liking from the show cooking chef. Breakfast did get busy at times but the hotel team were so efficient in clearing and resetting tables there was always space available. I was on a half board basis and the dinner was always of an excellent quality with themed menus several nights each week. The buffet selection was good and complimented by the show cooking of meat or fish cooked as you requested. The pool area was relaxed and loungers were always available at any time of the day during my visit. There is a facility to call the bar waiter from your poolside lounger. The highlight for me was the pool party afternoon with disco. The lounge and roof top bars are good with all the drinks that you would expect plus a great choice of cocktails and of course the Madeira Poncha has to be sampled. The roof top bar had some great entertainment on a few nights during my stay. The location of the hotel is convenient for the Lido, Forum Shopping Centre and Funchal with a bus stop just a short walk away.

Great holiday location. The roof top bar has wonderful views and bar staff excellent. Lots of bars and restaurants in the area and in walking distance to Funchal old town, definitely worth a visit.

Very nice hotel. Location good, 25 minutes or so walk into Funchal or frequent bus service about 50 metres from the hotel. Plenty of decent restaurants close by. The last one down the hill towards the Lido on the opposite side of the road to the hotel was particularly good. Reception staff very friendly and helpful, especially Kelly who was always cheerful and pleasant to talk to. Room was large and bed very comfortable, slept very well every night. We had booked a sea view room and although we could see the sea, the view was partially blocked by another part of the hotel. Housekeeping staff efficient. Breakfast extremely good, plenty of choice and variety. Rooftop bar a bonus although disappointed that it doesn't open 2 days each week. Pool area large and had no difficulty in getting sun beds.
