"Great potential"

Despite some building work being carried out the owner made us very welcome and offered a great service during our stay. Ideal stopping point for exploring the local area and a really grand hotel once all of the refurbishment is completed.

Attractive and old-world on the outside, and convenient to the ferry. However, this hotel has very poorly maintained rooms, with leaking plumbing fixtures and no hot water during the entire 4-day stay. The window in my room would not stay open because the sash-cords were rotted and broken. The coffee was good. The in-house Pub food was far below par. Even the fish & chips appeared to be from frozen. We had real fish & chips from a nearby "chippie" and there was absolutely nothing the pub fare had in common, quality or flavor-wise. The staff seemed less than interested in anything above mediocre service. I would not stay here again under any circumstance. It felt only slightly above tent-camping.

No hot water for showers for the whole time I was there. My door wouldn't stay closed unless I locked it. The hotel has electrical issues. The breaker tripped in my room and couldn't be reset so I had to be moved to a new room. In the new room the bathroom door wouldn't stay closed. There are no phones in the rooms to call to complain about issues. The WIFI kept going down and didn't work in my room. No elevators.

We have booked the budget room in Royal Marine Hotel for £ 50.When we checked the room appeared to be on the top floor ,no lift,no shower -a bath only, which is not suituable for me,no breakfast included. We've been told by the guy at reception - Richard - that this is because we've booked through e-bookers and we need to upgrade if we want more.. We paid extra £25 to upgrade. After we paid extra £25 -we had a room with no WF ever,no bedside lamps-to read a book if there is a problem with WF.There is not a wardrobe in the room, not any shelves, cupboards in the bathroom -if you want to dry your hair or put on make up - just use the floor? But it was plenty of flies, one dead wasp on the rusty window and plenty of condesation ...Also squeeky table and floor ...
