"Very special stay 🤩"

10.0

My husband decided to surprise me with a night away, and wow what a choice! He booked us the private suite, with courtyard garden and hot tub! The room was exactly what I like. Traditional, spacious and immaculate. The staff are beyond brilliant, and the food is absolutely stunning. The view from our room was amazing and the whole experience was so restful and just an absolute pleasure. One tiny thing, there must be some stairs running behind the wall of our room, and approx 11pm-midnight it was insane the amount of stomping up and down, but we are not early to bed people, so we just turned the TV up...but if someone who beds down early has that suite, they might not like that. I however will 100% return and I would love that suite again. Beautiful family run hotel. Well done guys, utterly fantastic 👏

"A nice view"

It was all fine. Room was clean and the bed was comfy. Older property with steep stairs and no lift. The restaurant wasn’t open on the night I stayed. Staff were pleasant. WiFi didn’t work, asked twice and still didn’t work.

"Perfect countryside retreat"

10.0

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night break at Orestone manor. From check in to checking out, the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. We stayed in a superior room (7) with glorious sea views from the bed and the little lounge area. The room is a great size and my husband whom is 6ft4 did not hit his head once on the eaves. The bathroom is well appointed with a roll top bath and a large walk in shower; we loved the toiletries so much, we purchased some body lotion ! It is definitely worth booking the 3 course meals and breakfast; the food is exquisite with wonderful flavours throughout. The menu’s are changed daily and we sampled some wonderful new dishes that we would love to eat again. After dinner you can relax with a coffee or glass of wine in the quirky communal lounge areas. I cannot thank all the staff enough for a perfect stay; we will definitely be returning and have already recommended to several friends!

"Excellent staff"

10.0

Very good service, I was served by Molly. Would visit again just based off of her service and even went out of her way to call a taxi for me to get back to the train station as I was a bit burnt and unable to walk there. Excellent service and was smiling the whole time. Thank you Molly. 10/10

"Superb gourmet stay"

10.0

We've just returned from a 2 night, DBB in Garden Room 1. A special treat for our 32nd Wedding Anniversary. Everything was perfect. The food was amazing and the 3 Course Menu was varied. Wish we had booked for longer to try everything! The room had a four poster bed, a hot tub and it's own little patio with chairs and a beautiful sea view over looking the gorgeous garden. I highly recommend this family run hotel. All the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. What an absolute treat! Thank you so much. We shall definitely be returning. The Lamberts.

"Out of the way"

6.0

We stayed here a short while ago in a deluxe bedroom and the service from the staff was really good, it was very attentive. Staff serving behind the bar as well as in the restaurant were all on hand and very friendly. The hotel is situated outside Torquay and Babbacombe and it is not easily accessible to either unless you use a car. You can walk along the coastal footpath but that is a long walk with a huge steep decent down hill from the hotel and a walk of at least 30 minutes across the coastal path then another humongous uphill hike to either Babbacombe or Torquay. You need to be very fit to do it otherwise you will have to use your car and be prepared to navigate the tortuous tiny, bendy, country lanes to get to where you want to go. The hotel is old, quirky and the cliental are mainly elderly. There are no pools, inside or outside and no spa. No lift and no telephones in the bedrooms (at least not ours). Having said that, there is a pleasant terrace at the back of the hotel from which you can just about see the sea. On an honesty note:- Our deluxe room was number 6 and I do really think we got the short straw. It was advertised as "deluxe and exotic" but it was really only the size we would have expected in any superior room. The bathroom was big with a roll top bath which was totally unimportant to us since we prefer to shower. The room was advertised as having a balcony and overlooking the front garden. That was really, really stretching the truth. Our deluxe room overlooked the steep road down to the beach, the main entrance to the hotel and, more significantly, the car park. There was no front garden to speak of and who wants to sit on a balcony overlooking a car park? Unlike other rooms there was no view of the sea. More to the point, the main wall in the bedroom constituted a door out on to the balcony but there were no windows to open to let air into the bedroom other than a half window in the door and the door itself. The room was stiffling hot. We could open the balcony door but then it swung around in the wind, banging all night long and let in all the outside noise from the road and the car park and then the dustbin lorry which came into the front at 6am. It wasn’t a deluxe room in our opinion although we paid extra for it. In summary, the hotel was pleasant, in an out of the way location, the service from the staff was excellent, the food was good ( I wouldn’t go as far as to say excellent, but it was good) and we we enjoyed our stay but we would have enjoyed it more had we been in a nicer room.
