Orestone Manor

An absolute gem of a property in Torquay that should not be missed. On arrival at this manor house there is a large safe car park with stunning views over the grounds and out to sea. The property is unique throughout and each of the communal areas were wonderfully decorated with quirky items in each area. Had a feeling of luxury throughout. Our room was over two floors and also had a hot tub as well as facilities for drinks, et cetera. Again the decor and colours were wonderful. Dinner at the restaurant was out of this world and akin to any top end restaurant we have visited in the UK. An absolute credit to the chef and his staff. All staff were extremely helpful and went above and beyond what was expected. Following dinner there is a beautiful lounge area serving an array of drinks. There is also a log fire adding to the ambience of the property. We were made to feel very special at Orestone Manor and would have no hesitation in recommending this venue to anyone visiting Torquay

Ten of us were attending a murder mystery evening, with eight of us staying overnight. I cannot fault the hotel in any aspect. The evening was great fun, the staff were first class and the food excellent. We just had a standard double which was more than adequate and breakfast was very good. We will definitely be returning, either for a meal or even for another stopover.

Amazing stay, wonderful staff, exceptional food, lovely room.

The dramatic setting of this family-run hotel is gorgeous with a lovely terrace perfect for drinks at any time, with glorious sea views. However the garden is so steep that it's not suitable to stroll around. The customer service was simply excellent with friendly, helpful staff, (apart from one person on reception - fortunately not there often.) The restaurant staff could not have been better, even remembering particular likes and dislikes. The food was fabulous, beautifully presented and very tasty. The highlight of our stay was the gorgeous bedroom. We were in deluxe room 6 with a balcony, even though the view wasn't brilliant it was great to sit out listening to the little water fountain below on very warm days. It was a large room with loads of living space, beautifully furnished and an excellent comfy super-king bed. The bathroom was fabulously decorated in Chinese style. Re general location: Having never stayed in Devon we were looking forward to exploring the coast near Torbay. We were disappointed with the resorts in the area, although Torquay promenade was attractive as we were expecting to find the area upmarket, which it certainly isn't. However Maidencombe beach, very close to the hotel, although quite a steep climb down, and only available some time after high tide, was lovely, with an excellent shop/cafe supplying all needs. The weather was so hot that I went into the sea to swim but was very disappointed with water quality. We're just sad this great hotel is not in a better location, as we loved the accommodation, food and especially the service offered by Craig and the restaurant staff.

Exceptionally well run family managed hotel. Very friendly welcome from the lady on reception upon arrival. Young barman/waiter was very knowledgeable on his subject and served up kir royales which were mixed to perfection. Also knew immediately what a mollusc allergy was and which dishes would be unsuitable - it’s not often these days that you get that sort of confidence in what you’re being told allergy wise! Creative dinner menu well executed with very professional - but not too stuffy - service. Not many hotels like this left - unfortunately!

Nice quiet location - lovely comfortable and plush communal lounge with roaring fire. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Dinner and breakfast top notch with an excellent range of choice. A definite go back to hotel. Only gripe was no lift.

A stunning manor house in beautiful surroundings. Spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and food was delicious. Staff are all exceptional. Will definitely be returning .

Another fabulous stay at this delightful hotel. Such a treat to get away after Christmas and have some lovely walks and enjoy delicious food. As in previous years we arrived after Christmas and stayed to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Format for this for the past couple of years has been a selection of canapés, entertainment, disco and fireworks at midnight. This year we had the garden room with private hot tub.

Had Sunday lunch today with the family. It was superb! Setting and ambience were excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful and delicious. Thanks for a great experience and we're looking forward to visiting again soon.
