"Fantastic Family Holiday"

10.0

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Elba Royal Village Lanzarote and honestly couldn’t fault the hotel. We arrived around midnight and received a lovely welcome from reception. The hotel immediately had a real “wow factor” – it was spotlessly clean, spacious and smelt amazing throughout. Reception staff gave clear directions and our room (401) was easy to find, located right next to the adults-only area. We travelled as a family with a 10-year-old and a 1-year-old, and the room was perfect for us. It was extremely spacious with plenty of room for suitcases, a pram and the travel cot we had requested. The room included an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, fridge and safe. There was a large double bedroom and a separate living area with a pull-out bed. One of our favourite features was the private patio/garden area. Ours wasn’t overlooked at all, and we made great use of it in the evenings once the baby was asleep. It was lovely to sit outside with a drink and relax. The hotel is fantastic for families. The swimming pools were always clean and well maintained, and Pepeland/kids club was brilliant for all ages. It also provided a welcome break from the midday sun. The main restaurant is buffet style with plenty of choice every day. We particularly enjoyed the themed evenings, including sushi and Mexican nights. We have some fussy eaters as well as a toddler, but everyone always found something they enjoyed. There is also a dedicated children’s section with plastic plates and cutlery, which was a thoughtful touch. If I had one small criticism, it would be that the restaurant layout can feel a little chaotic at busy times, with people walking in different directions trying to find food stations. Morning queues for coffee and juice could also be quite long. However, evening meals were much more relaxed, and drinks were served directly at the table as part of our all-inclusive package. The pool bar was excellent, with quick service and a great selection of branded alcoholic drinks, soft drinks, slushes and snacks. It was ideal for a light lunch during the day. On our final evening, we managed to get a table in the Italian restaurant and it was a real highlight. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly, the food was fresh and delicious, and the staff were wonderful with the children. It felt like a real treat after enjoying the buffet all week. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained and every member of staff we encountered was friendly and welcoming. We spent most mornings exploring the local area. Flamingo Beach is around a 10-minute walk away and is perfect for a coffee, drink, beach visit or supermarket trip. The hotel also runs a free shuttle bus to Dorada Beach, which we used several times. We often walked back via the marina, which took around 15–20 minutes with a pram and was an easy, pleasant stroll. One recommendation for families travelling with young children would be to book a private airport transfer. We did this after reading recommendations from previous guests and were very glad we did. After a long flight, the last thing we wanted was a busy transfer bus with a tired baby. As a side note unrelated to the hotel, our experience at Lanzarote Airport on arrival wasn’t great. Customs and border control were extremely busy due to several flights landing at the same time. We spent around 40 minutes queuing for the new facial recognition e-gates before being told children couldn’t use them, then had to join another queue for border control which took a further 45 minutes. After a four-hour flight, it was hot, stressful and exhausting. That said, once we arrived at the hotel everything was fantastic. We felt safe, relaxed and happy throughout our stay. The hotel was exceptionally clean, family-friendly and well run. We would absolutely return and would highly recommend Elba Royal Village Lanzarote to anyone travelling with young children. Thank you to all the staff for helping make our family holiday so enjoyable! This reads as a genuine 5-star TripAdvisor review and includes enough detail that other families travelling with young children will find it really helpful.

"Room not as advertised, poor service and unusable all-inclusive"

2.0

⭐☆☆☆☆ Avoid - one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've had I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel genuinely misled by this hotel and would strongly advise others to think carefully before booking. The problems started at check in. I had specifically booked a suite advertised with separate beds as I was travelling with my mother. Upon arrival, I was told there were no such rooms available and that these were allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. This was never made clear during booking. Instead of receiving the room I had selected, we were expected to share a double bed or use a sofa bed, which we had to make up ourselves. Paying a premium price for a suite and then sleeping on a sofa bed is simply unacceptable. The customer service throughout our stay was poor. We were not properly checked in, received a letter the following day requesting information and signatures that should have been taken on arrival, and basic information such as Wi-Fi details was not provided. Our luggage failed to arrive at the room for well over an hour and repeated calls to reception went unanswered. The dining experience was chaotic from the very first evening and breakfast the following morning. These were the only occasions I used the hotel's dining facilities. On both occasions, we struggled to find cutlery because tables had not been properly set. We ended up having to take cutlery from other tables ourselves. We were never offered drinks and staff did not come to our table. My sister eventually went to get water herself because nobody was serving our area, only to be told off for doing so. At breakfast there were no coffee or tea mugs available, bowls were not being restocked, and I was unable to have cereal because there were simply no bowls left. For an all-inclusive hotel, these basic failures are astonishing. Following breakfast on the first morning, I became extremely unwell and suffered severe digestive issues. As this was the only food I had consumed at the hotel, I no longer felt comfortable eating there and chose to eat out for the remainder of the holiday. My sister’s partner also had stomach issues from the food. This meant paying additional money for food despite having already paid for an all-inclusive package. Maintenance and housekeeping standards were equally poor. We experienced issues with the hot water, which stopped working completely. Despite reporting it, I waited so long for assistance that I eventually had to take a cold shower to avoid missing dinner reservations. Although the hot water was eventually restored, the shower continued to drip constantly and the water pressure remained poor for the rest of the holiday. The dripping impacted my sleep as I was on the sofa bed which was opposite the bathroom and I had to listen to that all night long- despite reporting the issue and asking for it to be fixed. Housekeeping was among the worst I have experienced. Dirty cups and glasses were routinely left in the room. Used towels were repeatedly folded and rehung instead of being replaced, despite clearly having been used and left for collection. On one occasion fresh towels were delivered (only after my mother requested them wt the front desk) but the dirty towels were left behind. Bed linen was never changed during our stay, beds were not properly made, and basic cleaning tasks appeared to be routinely missed. Even empty toilet roll tubes were left in the bathroom rather than removed. What is most frustrating is that many of these issues were reported while we were staying at the hotel. Time and again, staff either failed to resolve the problems or made us feel as though we were the inconvenience for raising them. This hotel fell far below the standard advertised. Between the room not matching the booking, poor customer service, inadequate housekeeping, maintenance problems and unusable all-inclusive facilities, it had a significant negative impact on what should have been a relaxing holiday. I would not return and would not recommend it to others.

Not an adult only hotel. Shared facilities with families. Shared restaurant was a bomb site. Not enough staff to clear and clean. Housekeeping still cleaning 1900 in the evening.

"Please let this be your sign not to book this hotel."

2.0

We’ve just come back from this hotel in Lanzarote and I can honestly say it was by far the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had. I never normally leave reviews, but I genuinely hope this helps someone avoid making the same mistake we did. The food was shocking. The buffet area was chaotic and unhygienic — spillages left everywhere, including jelly still on the floor from the night before into the next morning. There were constantly no cereal bowls available, dirty glasses being reused, and tables were “cleaned” so quickly there was clearly no proper attention to hygiene. We paid for all inclusive, yet apparently bottled water wasn’t included in the mornings, only at lunch and dinner? Instead you’re expected to use the machines. For the amount you pay, you’d at least expect access to water throughout the day without being made to feel awkward for asking. The snack bar was basically leftovers from the buffet recycled into “snacks,” which felt lazy and poorly managed. Ice creams were advertised as unlimited, yet one day they ran out by around 2pm and staff simply said “that’s it” with no restock. Cockroaches in the bathrooms. The lift broke during our stay, which is a nightmare when you’ve got suitcases and a pushchair. One day the water was completely turned off without warning — no notice, no communication, nothing. We literally went to brush our teeth and had no water. The bar service was painfully slow every single night. You don’t think it’ll matter until you’re stood waiting forever with tired children on holiday. We also ordered what we thought was a standard strawberry daiquiri included in all inclusive, only to be told we had to pay extra. Then when my husband went to pay, a staff member told him to “just put the 10 euros in the tip jar,” which felt incredibly dodgy. Reception staff were rude and unhelpful too. I politely asked to change a €10 note after literally watching them do it for another guest earlier in the week, and was spoken to so abruptly. The only positives were the entertainment/kids club staff, who were lovely with our daughter, and our maid, who was genuinely kind and accommodating. We tipped her €10 after she kindly cleaned our room around our daughter’s nap time. The weather wasn’t great either, so the freezing pools didn’t help, although obviously that isn’t the hotel’s fault. Please use this review as the sign not to book here. Don’t be fooled by the positive reviews because we’ve literally just returned and it was honestly awful from start to finish. It’s genuinely put me off returning to Lanzarote altogether.
