Pestana Promenade Ocean Resort Hotel

Staff very good Location good with great views out to sea and promenade very handy for testing walks

The rooms were limited in that only 2 of them had walk in showers. We are in our late 70s and very wary of the dangers of showers in baths. We ended up in a disabled room, which was tired and had a leak from the bathroom ceiling on 2 occasions.

Just returned from 7 nights at Pestana Promenade. The hotel is lovely with beautiful gardens/ pool area. All areas are spotlessly clean and staff friendly, helpful and professional. The buffet dinner has an adequate choice and the quality and taste is excellent. The soups were particularly delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed every meal. The hotel was quiet in January and so the lounge/bar lacked atmosphere but this was made up for by the community feel to the hotel. Most guests seemed to be part of the Pestana membership scheme and appeared to return time and time again. Everyone was friendly and chatty and ready to give you excellent tips and ideas to enhance your stay. The bar also ran two happy hours when drinks were half price and cocktails had 20%off. It's hard to find anything negative about this hotel but we did have 2 minor irritations. Firstly the bathroom has a huge window into the bedroom. Privacy can be obtained by lowering the blind but it meant that using the bathroom overnight had to be done without putting on the light as it would be too bright for the bedroom. Secondly, every time you bought a drink 10% was added to the bill without your consent. No explanation of how the money is distributed was given. Tipping is an emotive issue but unless you wanted to make a fuss and refuse to pay it three or four times per night you had to pay.

This is our 4th or 5th visit to the promenade and while the location is 1st class the main thing we like most about this place is the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff who all seem to be happy at their work and nothing is too much bother long may it continue

The surroundings, service, food, facilities, staff and everything else were absolutely exceptional. It was my mother’s birthday and the staff could not to enough to make her day special. Extremely impressed all round.

My second and my wife’s first stay. A first rate hotel with excellent facilities and in a great location. Extremely well maintained and cleaned. We had a garden room with access to the pool and the coast beyond. We ate a couple of times in the restaurant and enjoyed a post dinner drink in the bar. On other nights (we were there for sixteen nights) we ate and a variety of restaurants in the area and in Funchal city centre. Several bus routes from outside the hotel to city centre (approximately 3 km) flat fare of 2 euro. The hotel is managed very well and Julio is very hands on, he and the head of hospitality were often present at breakfast to greet residents in person. Having been twice to Madeira with so many other places in the world to go we won’t be back to the island but if we were we would stay at the hotel again. Recommended without reservation.
