Canal Court Hotel

Wow what a fantastic hotel!! I booked this hotel as a treat for myself & my husband, I booked at very short notice & was surprised to get a really good deal which included a £30 food voucher. We were greeted & checked in very promptly by a lovely friendly lady on reception she made us feel very welcome. When we arrived we were very surprised at how beautiful the lobby looked very oldie worldly not clinical like a lot of hotels. We had lunch in the bar lots of little nooks & crannies very homely & fantastic staff. The restaurant upstairs is amazing staff go out of their way to help both at evening meal & Breakfast food was amazing. Lovely bar upstairs lovely decorated. We will definitely come back one of the best hotels we have stayed in!! We went to our room a lovely touch was having to scan your key card to enter the bedroom corridor which is a nice safety feature. The room was a good size which faced out onto the river good size bathroom no bath but the shower was fantastic. Plenty of storage space a good bright light for doing makeup getting ready. Bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept on in a while amazing.

We honestly can’t thank David from Canal Court enough. A few months before our wedding, we found out our original venue had been double booked, and we were completely devastated. It felt like everything we had planned was falling apart. Then we got in touch with David, and from the very first conversation, he put us at ease. He was so understanding, warm, and genuinely wanted to help. His professionalism and kindness stood out immediately. David went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and reassured during such a stressful time. He took the time to listen, offered thoughtful solutions, and made what could have been a nightmare situation feel completely manageable. Thanks to David, we were able to look forward to our wedding again. His help and support meant the world to us, and we truly believe everything worked out for the best because of his involvement. He was amazing, and we’ll always be grateful for everything he did.

Have stayed here many times and it never disappoints. Love the leisure centre, outdoor hot tub is class. Food is gorgeous, huge helping, and breakfast is delicious. Great location and brillian shopping near by. Staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Will be back.

Been going here for 20 odd years socialising but rarely stayed. Had a wonderful stay as a birthday surprise. Food was great, room was fantastic and the staff were amazing, led by Fiona at reception. My son loved wandering the next morning and the cleaning crew were so accommodating to him. Thanks CC!

On arrival greeted by Sorcha, so lovely and kind, room was not ready so got to have a lovely pink gin in bar, again friendly staff. Back out to Sorcha, lots of chats, I admit Im a high maintenance guest but they go above and beyond to help you. Room huge and warm or cool, gr8 tv channels, fab wifi, breakfast in room is great, they forgot me 1st morn even tho card was outside door by 10pm nigjt before but within 5mins dropt me up tea and coffee, housekeeping are all kind and caring...Becks on checkout was lovely too, they just went above and beyond for me and it was so much appreciated. Its my fav hotel in the the whole of Ireland, cant wait til November when Im back to annoy you all again xx

I was in the Granary Bar yesterday evening about 6.30 and ordered a pint of Guinness 0.0. The barman poured the drink and I paid for it. He told me to wait a couple of minutes as he should when pouring a Guinness, no problem. I sat at the bar in front of where that barman had poured the pint and waited. No problem so far. The barman then proceeded to serve two other customers and carry out barman tasks for about 10 minutes - I had time to check social media on my phone and then put my phone away and wondered when he would finish pouring my drink. He eventually came back to the drink and even told me he had forgotten about finishing pouring it - which I was a bit taken aback at. This barman has been working in the Canal Court for years and should know better.

The CC always hits the spot for me. Stayed again for 5 nights and it was just what I needed, to relax, switch of from work and to just enjoy the surroundings and Newry. As usual the reception, bar and restaurant staff shone through with a very polite and professional service. I will make one suggestion, that daily there should be a "special" on the menu in the Old Mill restaurant, this will create variety and entice folk in as the menu didn't change for the 5 days. But a very lovely peaceful break in the CC.

My recent stay at Canal Court in Newry was an experience with a mix of positives and disappointments. We arrived on Saint Patrick's Day, and the hotel had an energetic atmosphere, which was appreciated. The receptionist was polite and welcoming, setting a good tone for our stay. Unfortunately, as soon as we entered our room, we were greeted with an unpleasant smell of sewage. We had to block the plugs in the bathroom to ease the odor, which helped somewhat but didn’t entirely resolve the issue. The room itself was small, and the TV was notably minuscule, which didn’t contribute to a comfortable stay. After settling in, we went for a walk around Newry and enjoyed the lively atmosphere of the town. When we returned to the hotel later, the smell in the room had eased slightly, but the overall experience was still a bit off-putting. For dinner, the restaurant was quieter than expected, given the lively nature of the day. Despite there being around eight staff members and only eight guests, we stood at the entrance for about five minutes, passed around multiple times before anyone assisted us. Once seated, we waited another 15 minutes to be served. However, I must commend the food, as it was quite enjoyable, and I want to give credit to the chef for preparing a delicious meal. An issue arose when I was presented with the bill at checkout. Despite having already paid for our stay, dinner, and breakfast in advance, I was charged for everything again. When I brought this to their attention, my payment was questioned, which was frustrating. Once this was sorted out, I was given the correct bill, but the handling of this matter was not ideal. The dinner service itself was disappointing, with the exception of one older waitress who was genuinely kind and helpful. Unfortunately, the night’s sleep was also uncomfortable. The bed was not supportive, and there was noise throughout the night, including loud banging sounds and disturbances in the corridor around 4 AM. Breakfast the next morning was also impacted by poor service, although there was one waiter and an Indian waitress who provided excellent service. The food, however, was once again pleasant. In conclusion, while the hotel had potential, particularly with the quality of the food, the service left much to be desired, and the overall experience was not as enjoyable as I had hoped. There are certainly areas for improvement, particularly in terms of cleanliness, customer service, and noise management.

From the moment I arrived in reception to departing, the staff were so friendly & welcoming & genuine in all departments; bar, restaurant, front of house. Lovely walk in from of hotel along the canal too. Newry town was great to visit. Will definitely stay again 😀
