The Black Pearl Beach Side Apartments

As I stated in a previous review, I love the Black Pearl at Puaikura. This time was no different. Comfortable, quiet and great staff. Another plus (for me) was running into another returning guest whom I met last year. You cannot go wrong here.

Nice quaint hotel close to the beach and convenience store. The pool is great, and staff are very helpful and friendly. Just don’t expect much but this is a really good budget accommodation for a family. Spacious rooms and close to a cafe, ice cream shop, and bike rentals.

Our room at the Black Pearl was huge and amazing! Do note - this hotel is across the street from the beach, so you won't have direct access, but there is a gorgeous saltwater pool on site. Bigger than many apartments, this was a 1 queen + 1 single bed, for a family of 3. It had a sitting area, large kitchen with microwave and 2 cook tops, indoor dining area, and outdoor patio/deck. The room was very clean and comfortable, reception was very friendly. Clothesline out back was very handy for drying swimsuits, etc.

The villa was adequate for my needs, well furnished and tidy. The grounds were a delight. However the rooster that started at 2 a.m and finished at 5 a.m (every 15 second intervals) was a real deal breaker. I have travelled extensively in the islands and acknowledge that they are part of island life, but this one could not have been more than 5 meters away and just did not let up on either night of my stay. Also I booked knowing there was a pool as I dont like sand or waves. Sadly however it was taken over for several hours by a diving instructor and 6 learners complete with tanks etc. in what is not a large pool.

Really enjoyed our stay. On the quieter side of raro which suited us perfectly. Lots of beautiful restaurants nearby and staff really helpful and pleasant. They booked tours and restaurant pick ups for us. Would definitely recommend as it’s intimate place to stay where they get to know you personally. The gardens are beautiful and relaxing. Not perfect in terms of everything in room eg: shower not greatest and some windows/doors loose but being on an island makes this something of a charm. Stay here is you want a relaxing intimate stay. Don’t stay here if you are picky on everything being perfect in your room and rely on WiFi 24/7. We would definitely come back here as it suited us perfectly

Great Location, especially for snorkling, handy to everything .. Our host (Rangi) was the most helpful,friendly person ever ... The only negative was that the Facility did not have Breakfast as advertised by Hotels.com, not their fault I think. Highly recommend.

My third stay at The Black Pearl at Puiakura. Improvements are always happening. It just takes time (remember where you are). As usual beautiful sunsets across the road over the lagoon. Owner Jane and Rangi, Nga and Johnny are their usual helpful selves. Will definitely stay here again and again.

The receptionist was so kind and helpful even though we arrived before check in time. She could give us welcome fruits plate and a heartful hospitality and letter. It was really nice to stay at this hotel. Thank you so much for everything!
