The White House Inn

One of my favorite hotels. I stop there on my way home from Maine, going to New York. It's just a magical place. Gorgeous rooms, amenities, mountain views, with a great restaurant.

Breakfast was great . Wished we had eaten at the Hotel the first morning instead of going into town. Had dinner in the bar , bartender and food was great.

If we had known the steps in the room were so steep we would not have chosen that room.

Historic property in excellent condition, pretty grounds surrounding the inn, and cozy, well-appointed rooms.

We stayed one night for our 40th Anniversary. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were quite thick and firm. The room was clean .Breakfast was ok. The basement has mold on the pool table and the pool que sticks have basically no tip. We were in room 17 where you have to go up several flights of steps with no elevator. You could hear every word from the next room. That room had a drunk couple (also smoking pot that made it's way into our room) that fought violently for over four hours. They were screaming obscenities and throwing things at each other the entire time. We were given a number to text that said to notify anytime day or night if we needed anything, but no one responded. After four hours, we called the police because we were unable to rest. We heard the police say there was a hole in the wall and blood on the walls and door. It ruined our night! We never heard a word from the manager and it's been over a week...Nothing!! Definitely not a great stay and would not recommend.

A few kind hearted suggestions. Since it appears the rooms are all upstairs, a bell hop would’ve been very very helpful. As it was, my daughter had to drag up two suitcases and two bags up 2 flights of stairs with no assistance. It was very very difficult. I followed with things to carry up the stairs and as a 64-year-old woman, it was also very difficult. I almost fell on the last few steps before Suite 12. I suggest a nightlight in the bathroom. Maybe a sign that says “watch your head” for the loft, because that was unexpectedly painful. A clock in the suite would’ve been nice. housekeeping needs to do a better job cleaning out the shower. There must’ve been a clog or Hair & I took a shower standing in water the whole time. Very unpleasant. I also suggest educating the person at Check in. She didn’t know where the “game room” was and didn’t know you had a pool table. She told us to ask a server where it was and this was a dinner time. We probably wouldn’t even have known there was a game room or a chessboard, if it wasn’t for the paper left in the suite which provided some information. The speakeasy really the only good part of our stay. We spent our time on the property watching the Cubs game in the speakeasy. We were mostly by ourselves, & it was very pleasant. I doubt we would stay there again. I didn’t feel the hospitality and customer assistance that should’ve been provided at an Inn, for that price.

Breakfast was very nicely done. Great assortment of fresh fruit and other items. Very clean and comfy!

Some minor room condition issues. Light bulb out, TV remote not working, gas fireplace pilot on, remote not working. Wind whistles at entrance door (Loud)
