Royal Castle Hotel

The room was more than adequately sized; check-in was easy and breakfast was great. However, the bathroom was a fine example of design over utility. Bearing in mind the bathroom's size, it contained only a miniscule sink and there was nowhere to stand the necessities with which people travel, such as toothbrushes, razors, etc (which required frequent visits back to the bedroom), nor even a handy hook for a towel. Breakfast was great with a selection of cereals and pastries as well as an a la carte menu. However, service at dinner in the same room left much to be desired. There was no 'service,' the staff maintaining a distance from clients while they chatted behind the bar and so they were unable to see - let alone ask - whether anything further was required. We would have spent more over dinner had we been given the chance but took our business elsewhere.

The breakfast was good and served by very friendly staff The room was very comfortable

We were on the third floor with no lift so something of a struggle given my health problems - but we weren’t to know that when we booked

The bar lacked atmosphere

Reception lady was EXCELLENT, we had an issue with original room (problem with drains) & she upgraded us to a far better room which we appreciated.

Historic feel but with modern conveniences and excellent position.

There were no aspects which we experienced

We have previously stayed at The Royal Castle and it was great to see the refurbishment had been done tastefully and sympathetically by St Austell Brewery. It’s a great building and the improvements have made it an even nicer stay! The staff are friendly, attentive, informative and helpful - a credit to the St Austell Brewery.
